So you 'randomly' pick an item that is on back order for cheaper at Newegg and submit that as a challenge? No. It is simple. I check Amazon when I want something. If it is cheaper elsewhere (at the time), that is where I get it. Not a difficult concept. I've had free money sitting in Amazon for over a year and I buy quite a bit on the internet. It's my personal experience, I don't expect it to ring true for everything.
No, next to me is that monitor. I picked something within my view.

The whole year.. 3 digital ones (software keys), and 1 delivered.
I think they need more sales.

Thankfully, I can copy most of this from a previous post in another topic:

This is the order count for me, can kind of tell when our first kid arrived and we figured out Prime was the greatest thing ever:

2002 3
2003 6
2004 2
2005 5
2006 16
2007 18
2008 05 - 01 digital
2009 11 - 02
2010 41 - 04
2011 58 - 75
2012 77 - 31
2013 50 - 32
2014 72 - 44

In 2013 we moved around a bunch, it sucked. Ended up in an apartment Sep 13 - Apr 14. Damper on the acquisitions.

Also, 2014 isn't over yet and I have some more purchases planned. Bing Rewards GC + CC rewards points alone are evil.

Two. Generally every place is THE SAME OR MORE EXPENSIVE than Amazon....and I even have around $400 sitting in GC's there...

And hovering at 33 .... years not over yet though.

I compare prices including shipping on a regular basis and very rarely find a better deal then Amazon from a reputable merchant especially with Prime shipping factored in.

And in the rare case that Amazon isn't the same or lower priced then wherever else, they will match prices with a single email.

Edit: The one exception to this is the fact that Amazon now charges sales tax ... upon occasion this will result in my buying elsewhere.

You said it yourself WITH PRIME. You pay for Prime. While yes, it can be a deal, it isn't that great of a deal when you get free shipping in many places w/o the minimum limit.

I spend hours, sometimes days comparing prices. In some cases Amazon is lowest, in most it isn't. Could be luck of the draw on particular items. Sometimes even paying shipping still ends up being cheaper than Amazon.

But I digress, do you people have any friends? There's always someone who has to argue here. I find it hard to believe you call out everyone you know every time they say something in person. They would think you are assholes and not stick around long. I've made around 400 online purchases in the last 4 years and only around 30 were Amazon. My comment was personal experience, no need for people to get all defensive about it. FFS.

(1) Yes I do and I use it for more then free 2-day shipping, however even if I don't take the other features into account its still a great deal and combined with the zero-worry customer service I get from Amazon makes it a no-brainer.

(2) I used to spend days comparing prices when I helped manage an e-commerce website but I have better things to do with my free time these days. (I was being paid to do it then lol)

(3) Posting from work in my free moments ... not sure where having friends comes into it?

(4) Must have missed the personal attack in my response. Sorry to upset you but given the amount of time you've been here I would have expected a bit thicker skin!

Take a deep breath & relax man ... its not that serious!

The last portion was not directed particularly at you. I didn't take what you (or Olds) said as a personal attack. It was more an exasperated response to what has become the norm around here. Too many people see their experience as the only possible outcome and feel the need to correct people on theirs. In this case, one would assume the products in question would dictate which vendor may or may not have the best price (or simply timing). I was stressing that I don't take the subject lightly. I do my due diligence.

Crack pipe. Put it down.

He's not completely wrong.

I just bought an XBox 360 system for my grandkids. Amazon was between $50 and $100 more for the exact same system I bought...PLUS I had a gift card for BB I could use to reduce the out-of-pocket cost even more. Then, I needed some extra controllers...Got them from Dell for $15-$20 cheaper than they were at Amazon. back-ordered...cancelled the order.
Amazon has lost its edge. A lot of B&M companies know folks use them as a "showroom," and are tired of losing the sales.

Amazon would have matched Dell or BB with an email to customer service. I know because they've done it for me at both places. Of course I understand its a PITA to email then wait for Amazon customer service to reply when you can just click at BB/Dell & be done. (Amazingly I believe BB will also match Amazon now)

The BB gift card is another matter completely and I certainly wouldn't want to sit on one any longer then required.

Family shared account has over 200 orders...

I'm probably over 200 between on wife and I on our shared Prime account. I've placed 117 orders this year so far and I will probably have another handful before the end of the year.

I won't mess with asking for a price match unless it is a very large purchase and I want the reward points from Amazon. Otherwise, some things Amazon is insanely overpriced on and I won't waste my time asking for a price match. Hot tub (and I suspect pool) chemicals and supplies are one example. I can go to hottubworks.com and get roughly 3 filters for the price of 2 on Amazon (and if I hit a sale, close to 2 to 1) and with chemicals, nearly always 2 to 1.

So my policy now is to always check pricing everywhere for just about everything whereas before, "small" things I wouldn't mess with and would just purchase off of Amazon. I'm seriously considering dropping Prime as well but haven't decided for sure.

I'll pick a random item without searching the internet. I have an ASUS VS239H-P in front of me. Find it cheaper than Amazon, from a decent retailer.

Check out the prices of hot tub chemicals at Amazon. They're way too high.
