Can I just take a moment and applaud the Hollywood granola eating elites who took their anti-vax horseshit and sold it straight up to red state America??? Like they literally found a way to convince these "conservatives" who hate them/hate their lifestyle to give up the one thing that could save them in a pandemic. Bravo! Ohh but the best part was convincing them JFK Jr. was coming back from the dead to join their side!!!
You forgot the "Drinking urine is good for you!" ploy. That one is pure genius.

When I started this thread and set 1,000,000 as an option, I wondered if I was being too pessimistic.

How many deaths the former President will be "Directly" responsible for.
Less than half of those were on his watch.
Further still, what was the excess US death toll for COVID COMPARED to other nations, who lacked a Trump?
Even then... how many of those excess deaths are simply because Americans are stupid to begin with, regardless of the President?

The number for this topic title is FAR fewer than the sum of all COVID deaths in America. And it is beside the point, if one wants to point fingers at pandemic response. It is faith being taken away from science that is largely responsible for the failures we had. This is a wide spread cultural and global phenomena. It plagues mankind and grows worse by the day. Modern communications are responsible for the breakdown of civil society and the so called laws by which it was governed. One of those being an immutable place for logic and reason. For truth and science. It WAS our faith to hold those sacred.

The American people have much less faith in those things today, and Trump is merely the first obvious symptom of a much greater and much more terminal problem from which we should count ourselves lucky if any human survives the consequences. The war in Europe is a prime example of where such misplaced faith will lead. To fearmongering and warmongering. To death tolls once thought unimaginable. Surprise, humans are still human and we are ever our own greatest foe. How to defeat our baser instincts? Now that is the question....

We may consider ourselves enlightened beings if we manage to overcome these trying times with an intact and functional Democracy. Spoilers, we are not. Insofar as nothing I have seen has communicated that anyone among us, here and now, is capable of such thought. We only see the problem in front of our noses. Up goes the finger pointing and raised fists ready to smite the target. All while ignoring the bigger picture. Nary a mention how said fixation on Trump helps blind you. How the very need to lay blame and crush the "other" makes you one of them. In your righteous indignation, how many people have you been responsible for killing? There may be no one left to count the figures when enough blame has gone around and we've all had our fill of vengeance.

Blood will flow, but it was not Trump who lit the fire.

Just like economic policies, what Trump is responsible for lags his tenure.

Imagine if St. Reagan had said the virus is serious and we need to protect ourselves and each other from it by making, social distancing, and getting the vaccine.

Would there have been the same recalcitrance to doing all the above? Would public health have become a culture war item? I very much doubt it.

Which means everything that followed Trump is also on Trump. I doubt DeSantis would have acted as mini Trump in Florida. I doubt Dan Patrick of Texas (Lt. Gov) would have said that the elderly should die for the economy.

This is part of trump's legacy - 1,000,000 dead, most of which were preventable

You realize the people are still dying today based on Trump calling COVID a hoax?

Of course, you don't, you're too fucking stupid to understand cause and effect.

So..... ONLY what ? Roughly 400k dead? Well that changes everything!

You can be sent to prison for life or even executed for ONE death being your responsibility.

Glad I'm not the one responsible for posting that crap.

Indeed, it is people like you that were doing that before Turmp. He merely took it and turned it into a bonfire. If you genuinely believe your diatribe, you are to blame as much as anyone. And for damn sure you're not capable of such thought, as evidenced by your repeated defense of blatant egregious behavior that you're talking about. Just more of your Moonbeam level nonsense, trying to masquerade as though you're the one true arbiter of truth, whilst you can't even address the simple facts of the situation. Instead you just want to toss up your hands and go "both sides are mean and so its just gonna be bad" whilst you offer literally nothing, ever, as to what to do. You demonize people calling for peace and declare them as evil as people calling for genocide, and then when called for such blatant disregard for understanding you then throw tantrums.

Look in the mirror. You want change, then you start. Until then, you can keep your proselytizing and empty hollow words as your badge of dishonor. Because you represent that which you claim is the great wrong in the world. And you've done less than nothing to address it or work to change it. That's on you and no one else.

Back on topic, despite what this ignorant fool suggests, the number of deaths will actually be higher because his demonizing of healthcare and medicine will lead to more deaths than from COVID alone.

I don' think this is why they are still dying; however the anti-vax/anti-mask have been a real problem - esp the govt officials who pass laws to enforce anti-whatever.

Which "laws" are you talking about... be specific.

You honestly don’t think Trump’s behavior convinced a single person who ended up dying to not get vaccinated? Not one?
Well I doubt MAGAtards convinced themselves to not trust the vaccine because of the orange monkey. They were stupid already. But yeah how different the whole pandemic be if he told his dumb base to act responsibly.

Curious that excess deaths are once again greatly outstripping official COVID deaths, but only in specific US states and particular European countries.
West Virginia and Connecticut show excess death numbers way ahead of official COVID deaths, but Florida and New York have figures where the two are pretty-much consistent.

Likewise, for Europe, the UK, Spain and Portugal seem to be undercounting significantly, but France, Italy and Ireland are not

What's the reason for this? I'd have expected if any US state were undercounting COVID deaths it would be Florida, but unless they are also twisting the total death reports, it doesn't seem to be the case.

[Would have posted this in the off-topic COVID thread, but couldn't manage to find it!]

I don't believe Trump ever called Covid-19 a hoax. But he did downplay the pandemic a lot.
