When I started this thread and set 1,000,000 as an option, I wondered if I was being too pessimistic.
How many deaths the former President will be "Directly" responsible for.
Less than half of those were on his watch.
Further still, what was the excess US death toll for COVID COMPARED to other nations, who lacked a Trump?
Even then... how many of those excess deaths are simply because Americans are stupid to begin with, regardless of the President?
The number for this topic title is FAR fewer than the sum of all COVID deaths in America. And it is beside the point, if one wants to point fingers at pandemic response. It is faith being taken away from science that is largely responsible for the failures we had. This is a wide spread cultural and global phenomena. It plagues mankind and grows worse by the day. Modern communications are responsible for the breakdown of civil society and the so called laws by which it was governed. One of those being an immutable place for logic and reason. For truth and science. It WAS our faith to hold those sacred.
The American people have much less faith in those things today, and Trump is merely the first obvious symptom of a much greater and much more terminal problem from which we should count ourselves lucky if any human survives the consequences. The war in Europe is a prime example of where such misplaced faith will lead. To fearmongering and warmongering. To death tolls once thought unimaginable. Surprise, humans are still human and we are ever our own greatest foe. How to defeat our baser instincts? Now that is the question....
We may consider ourselves enlightened beings if we manage to overcome these trying times with an intact and functional Democracy. Spoilers, we are not. Insofar as nothing I have seen has communicated that anyone among us, here and now, is capable of such thought. We only see the problem in front of our noses. Up goes the finger pointing and raised fists ready to smite the target. All while ignoring the bigger picture. Nary a mention how said fixation on Trump helps blind you. How the very need to lay blame and crush the "other" makes you one of them. In your righteous indignation, how many people have you been responsible for killing? There may be no one left to count the figures when enough blame has gone around and we've all had our fill of vengeance.
Blood will flow, but it was not Trump who lit the fire.
