So at least 16% of the Anandtech forum users are wrong (and one would assume, are intellectually challenged as well).

An Arizona man and his wife ingested a fish tank cleaning additive made with the same active ingredient as chloroquine phosphate .

Having the same active ingredient doesn't make it the same thing nor does it make any sense to self dose yourself with something that is a cleaning agent for an aquarium. That is called stupidity.

Overdose of antimalarial drugs, particularly chloroquine, can be fatal. Medication should be stored in childproof containers out of the reach of infants and children.

Stop dodging a simple question - do you think, absent Trump giving unqualified medical advice, that these individuals would have ingested it?

Yes or no.

actually it is, they got the idea from somewhere, they didn't just pull it out of their asses. they listened to trump.

You know the phase "don't drink the cool-aid" or someones particular flavor-aide for the pedantic. And for the super-pedantic it's the phrase "drink the Kool-Aid'"

that phrase needs to leave the common American vernacular.
The Jonestown deaths have little to do with people staying alive and supporting a fat cheeto.

The woman who is alive was interviewed and said she took it after hearing the President promote out of fear.

Trump is the real culprit. He operates on fear. Fear of Mexicans, fear of Muslims, fear of people of color. That was part of the effectiveness of birtherism, that dark ferner.

Trump promoted this thing as a game changer failing to take into account a lot of his followers are not too bright and will listen to him. But he counts on that with his constant gaslighting. Meanwhile a trained responsible expert on stage could not get through to that couple because of his lack of bombastic presentation. I've asked Trumpers here many times who do you trust for COVID-19 advice, Trump or Dr. Fauci. Unfortunately that couple trusted Trump

Any public official in that high position knows they have to be careful what is said to the public. Any responsible public official. You and other Trump supporters constantly preach is doesn't matter what the President says. Most of us responsible people have told you that is not true.

Bottom line this guy who is President cannot be trusted with ANYTHING big or small. I don't don't know why you fail to acknowledge this fact. Yes it is a fact. Proven time and time again.

Hear is an excerpt from the interview of the woman
  • "We saw Trump on TV — every channel — and all of his buddies and that this was safe," the woman, who is in critical care after taking the drug with her husband, told NBC News' Vaughn Hillyard. "Trump kept saying it was basically pretty much a cure."
  • The president has repeatedly touted chloroquine as a "very powerful" treatment against the coronavirus and falsely claimed it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
  • Asked what her message was to the public after what she and her husband went through, the woman told NBC News: "Oh my God, don't take anything. Don't believe anything that the president says and his people ... call your doctor."

I'm not liking the waffling back and forth. A great leader would fight this thing until it's under control. A little pressure and he's starting to crack. Opening business up doesn't mean a fucking thing whenever the virus is still out there alive and well. I have no fucking plans of me and my wife going to a fucking ballgame when there's a good chance of getting Corona. You can say business open. It doesn't mean a thing. I and anyone with half a brain isn't going out in the water after we saw a great white fin out of the water a few minutes earlier.

We have Trump, he is certainly never going to be a "great" leader. That much was obvious in 2015 the day he announced his campaign.

Well to be specific he didn't take the drug(s) that was touted by Trump. He ingested an chemical that was designed to clean aquariums. They are NOT the same thing. You cannot stop people from qualifying for the Darwin Award.

Since the Olympics are cancelled, I guess we'll have to rely on you doing mental gymnastics for a surrogate.

The Jonestown cult was partly-religious and partly political - it was in some ways far-left, quasi-communist even. And the majority of the members were African-Americans. It was an example of how people can get sucked-in and trapped by a combination of a charismatic leader and a need to escape problems created by a dysfunctional society. I think there are absolutely some parallels with some aspects ofTrumpery, but you could, if so minded, try and compare almost any political or religious group, of either left or right, that draws in people who are less-than-happy-and-secure in society as it is, and want to either radically change it or escape from it.

It's a story that has been repeated over-and-over for hundreds, maybe thousands, of years but it's too easy to use it as a reason for complacency or blaming individuals for bad outcomes.

Ooooo, Trump wants to send us back to work, ASAP.

I guess since those trillions he is pumping into the stock market isn't working, may as well send us all to our deaths. Yes, I am sure a pandemic will do wonders for the stock market.

His businesses are probably so over leveraged they can't survive being closed more than a few weeks if that. Remember this is the same amazing business man who managed to bankrupt multiple casinos.

Don't worry, most of the people who die are older folks, so it shouldn't impact the labor market too much.

That said, this virus is probably going to kill off a bunch of older Trump supporters if he ends the quarantine early, so it would probably hurt his reelection chances. I'll need to change my poll entry and pick a higher number if that happens.

Mayor Vaughn wholly disagrees with this sentiment.

The WHO and CDC identified this as an appropriate and necessary step that the US government was appointing a high level admin official to serve as coronavirus czar.
And given that there was no such person, they should have found one and brought them in as coronavirus czar. Instead, Trump grand standed and put his running mate in as a dummy substitute hoping it would bolster his chances in November.

So do you think chloroquine phosphate and chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are the same thing?
I don't. However do you think there was a reason Dr. Fauci rushed to the mic to state this is an unproven treatment for corona?

Should a person who thought s was a good idea to nuke a hurricane be giving any advice science related. The woman specifically stated she was inspired to take the drug because of Trump. This is why you have to be careful with words.

Remember the phrase "the North Korean nuclear threat is over". Is it or isn't it?

LOL, Hawly is MO's version of Ted Cruze. Another amoral "moral person" who treats his base with contempt and they love him for it.
