How many computers can I run on a circuit

A bunch of friends and I hold monthly LANs, and they are getting really huge. My question is how many computers (350W PSU average) with a monitor could I run on one home circuit (new, within past 5 years)? How much amperage is usually in these things, and how can I go about calculating the maximum computers that could run before tripping the circuit?

At the call center I used to work at, I think we ran 30 or so computers on each circuit without any problems. They were 300 watts and had 15 - 17" monitors which were heavily used in during the day and lightly idiling at night.

I guess it really depends on the size of your circuits. I'd say the norm for houses is roughly 20amps per circuit (correct me if I'm wrong). You could probably safely fit 7 or 8 PC's on ONE 20 amp circuit. Anything more and you'll trip the circuit. So you'll know when you have too much on one circuit when the 9th computer is booting up and all your lights go out!

just my .02

good luck!

technically speaking, if you add the amps for the moniter and the amps for the cpu for each person.. as long as that amount it under the amps listed on the circuit.. you would be fine...

now for the real answer: it's kinda like overclocking.. max it out and then back off a bit... when you plug in that last moniter and everyone's screens flicker, it's probably a good idea not to hook the moniter (or computer) up to that circuit

it all depends on the circuit though... at hotel conference rooms we can usually do about a dozen, maybe 15 comps before tripping the circuit (which tends to be the whole conference room, and thus large capacity)

whereas, at UCF, we took up the large conference room, about 50 people or so and never had a single problem

Look at the circuit breaker for the room you're using, most circuits are 15 or 20 amps. 15 is standard as far as I know
