At this moment I am sitting in my home office. I have my Office PC, personal laptop, 3 old P4 systems in my closet, and 7 laptops from a small company I do consulting for.
My son has a computer in his room across the wall, there is a HTPC in the family room, 2 servers under the stairs, and one computer in the garage.
So 17 computers right now, but 7 aren't mine.
Don't see why you'd need more if you live alone...how do you use more than one computer at once? One mouse in your left hand and another in your right, each eye focused on a different screen? Or half a dozen remote desktop windows open at once?
I suppose it could probably be useful to have some low-power server that shares files, printer etc., but it seems kind of overkill at home.
I have a main computer in the family room, a desktop in my bedroom, and my daughter has a desktop in her room. We also both have netbooks. As soon as I get the money for parts I'm going to build a server for backup, and media shares.
A laptop is portable, so you don't need a "bedroom pc", "kitchen pc", "bathroom pc" etc... Just slam the notebook shut, grab it and take it with you from room to room
Throw some of that shit away. I stopped being a packrat with useless hardware and I couldn't be happier.
A laptop is a mobile computer.Running computers, or computers in general? I'll assume running.
My main laptop
Basement laptop
Garage laptop
Fiancee's laptop
Fiancee's 2nd laptop
Extra laptop
I've pretty much done away with the desktop.
