for years, I only had one... I was a bit stupid about it in my teens/early 20's. if I got a credit card offer with better rewards/lower interest, I'd get the new one and cancel the old, because that made sense in my head.
I still don't really go crazy (unlike, say, my mom, who's got a different store credit card for every store in the state), but I'm up to 3 now (not counting my debit card, which I only use for withdrawing cash at ATM's).
Amazon Visa -- 99% of my purchases are with this card. usually save up the points and use them for all my Christmas shopping every December
United Airlines card -- it's got a yearly free, but as long as I travel twice, the free checked bags pay more than offset the cost of the card. plus there's no fee for international spending, so this is the card that I'll use while on vacation
Costco Amex -- hate that Costco only takes American Express... I wouldn't have the card otherwise. but between my BF and I, we host a lot of parties, so I need to make the occasional trip to Costco.
