None. I lost all my credit cards when I tried to "make it big" in the financial markets. Now I try to get by with Paypal and the "Visa Debit" function of my bank ATM card.

3 visas, 1 MC, and an AMEX.

I really only have that many to keep utilization tiny since I have to fund my own travel for work and that can be substantial each month. All balances are paid off each bill.

1 Discover (Aldi's 1% cashback), 1 Amex Blue (5% on gas, groceries, and eating out, 2% else, Costco), and an Amazon.com Visa (3% on all Amazon purchases and for the rare occasion that Amex isn't accepted). Pay them off every month in full and get the benefit of cashback on stuff I'm going to have to buy anyway.

All of them.

Well, more than I currently want (opened up many years ago racking up free money from 0% APR balance transfers).

How do you get "free money" from 0% APR balance transfers?

1)
Transfer money from loan to credit card.
Proceed to not pay interest.
Save money?

2)
Take out a loan at whatever interest rate.
Transfer the balance to a 0% transfer fee, 0% balance fee card
Used the loaned money on a bond of whatever type that yields higher than CDs
Earn Money?

4. In order of use:

NFCU Flagship Rewards Visa
Delta AMEX
Sears Rewards (Opened to buy a new washer/dryer)
USAA Platinum

I usually carry a $2k balance on the NFCU card and $0 on everything else. I've gotten a shload of points on the NFCU card.

Three:

1) United Explorer. I use this for most of my purchases so I get flyer miles.

2) Lowes AMEX. Gets me 5% off at lowes + 2 points/dollar on lowes purchases. Good deal since I do alot of remodeling. (So total discount of 7%)

3) Chase Sapphire Preferred. Don't use this one much. I'm looking for a better card for gas/groceries, so I'm going to close this one soon I think once I decide on another one.

Only 1, Visa Modulo Gold.
Limit is 18k.

Should I get a second card? My credit score is pretty good so I don't think I need more credit cards...

I have 4 I think, maybe 5.. not including store cards. Only use them when they have 0% for xx months or if I'm in real shit and need to pay for a major repair unexpectedly.

I'll keep a balance on my capital one card since the interest is really low but I never find myself using them like other people who just put all their purchases on cards.

As someone who has never had an air miles card and flies infrequently (and only for leisure), can anyone tell me how cashing in air miles works, how many miles a typical flight costs, and which type of card I should look at for international flights?

United is the "Cheapest" as far as using flyer miles is concerned. You can get a round trip ticket to europe for 60,000 flyer miles. That's basically $600 worth of reward points. Most tickets to Europe are around $1000, so it's definitely better to use a miles card then to get a cash back card and buy it yourself.

In the last 5 years I've redeemed two round trip tickets to Italy, two round trip tickets to Hawaii, 2 round trip tickets to california, and I have enough points now for two round trip tickets to Europe again.

Chase United Explorer has (or used to have) a sign up bonus of 45,000 miles, which means you only need another 15,000 for a ticket to Europe.

My wife and I usually spend around 30-40K/year on our credit card, which gives us 40,000 miles + I think they give you another 10,000 if you spend over $20K in a year.

I usually rack up another 30-40K miles/year from work travel.

I'm pretty sure I have 11 open credit cards. Only four see any activity, the rest are in the sock drawer.

General Purpose: 2%
Gas: 5%
Groceries: 3%
Amazon/Electronics: 5%

Amex BlueCash Everyday
Chase Freedom
AAA (Visa)

I don't use the AAA card anymore. I alternate between my Freedom and BCE depending on what the rewards categories are.
