C: be yourself and have fun
D: be sincerely interested!!!

Sounds to me like you're making up excuses NOT to go, just go have fun.

Another question thats sort of off topic to this, but is it really all that important if someone deletes you from their facebook friends list? Like, if a classmate you have in college adds you and then 2 days later deletes you

How did you escape your parents basement? You're not going to get into a frat. You have insecurity issues and you don't like beer. You sound like tons of fun.

How do i go about overcoming my insecurity?

people who say they have no insecurity are people who are content staying in their basement playing computer games right after their mundane days at work and not out in the real world stretching their comfort zones.

That right there describes me, i'm a guy that goes home and plays video games after going to class. Guess i should get out more often?

My level of insecurity is to where if when i say hi to someone that they say "hey lw07" in a tired tone i'll worry if they're blowing me off, and I've even gone so far as to delete quite a lot of people off my facebook if i even thought they might delete me in the future or might turn against me somehow.
that's kind of extreme
so you are afraid of rejection? well a lot of people are. And you want to reject them before they can reject you. Why would they delete you though? People don't take facebook that seriously... if they delete you from their friend list, who gives a shit.

but on the bright side, you are still a college freshman. You will grow and change (hopefully for the better) through college. more mature and grow a thicker skin... but you have to keep exposing yourself to social situations and face rejections

It's not the number of events you attend, but the number of goats that you sodomize.

I rushed 3 frats and got 3 bids, declined them all and got banned from 2 of them. Don't rush if you're not gonna join it can make partying hard later on. Of course now I'm older and it makes no difference.

OH NOES! Facebook deleted!!!! How will I live!!!

The problem with your insecurity and all those your age is that you grew up on the internet and don't know how to interact with real people.

Paying people to be your friends is not going to solve this problem, especially if you can't partake in their food (beer) for some naively inaccurate reason like "it tastes bad."

This is actually the reason why I didn't join the frat that gave me a bid. I liked the guys, but the idea of "paying for friends" just turned me off.

And LW07, you're overthinking everything waaaaay too much. At the beginning of my sophomore year I was awkward and insecure as hell (still am, but I have plenty of friends and I just avoid situations that will be bad). Just go and have fun. Act interested, act like you're happy, and people will want to be around you.

Membership revoked.

Seriously.

OP: You don't sound like the frat type. Why are you even rushing?

Lol, Frats are hilarious, (way) back in the day I rushed every frat on campus with no intention of joining any of them (just because they all gave out free stuff, yayyy!). I agree with Pickens, you don't seem the frat type (not a bad thing). Drinking for the purpose of getting smashed doesn't sound like your cup of tea (this is not what all frats are about but it is a strong theme) though you really should stretch yourself in one way or another. One of my favorite quotes is "A ship is safest in port, but that's not what a ship was made for" -Paulo Coehlo

Also this:
(beer) for some naively inaccurate reason like "it tastes bad."
should be disregarded. Taste is a subjective thing and for some reason beer is strongly associated with "manliness" in our culture. Drinking or not drinking or liking how something tastes or not liking it has zero bearing on how "manly" you are.

my 2 cents: don't waste your time and money joining a frat. Friends should be free...

When you get to the part where you have to run through a line of people with large paddles while your pants are around your ankles, you know you have a good chance of getting in.

Also, skip any frats that require you to play "nookie cookie".

Don't like beer eh?

I know from experience you would never get into my fraternity, and no we don't wear popped collars and visor and scream "BRO LETS SHOTGUN NATTYS!!!" its more of a group of friends that like to party together but actually have the money and organizational structure to hold cool events and give back to the community.
