How many gallons of water do you use per month?

I am a homeowner, just my wife and I. I looked at my statement and we use consistently 2,250gallons of water each month. We do not water our lawn. For the most part we have modern appliances with water saving features, except for our toilets. Our toilets are extremely wasteful with water.

I take long showers, so I am a bit surprised at how low the number is. I read that americans typically use around 3,000 gallons per month, per person.

Perhaps I am not showering enough lol

Home with 8 people (2 adults, 6 children 11 and under): 12-15 cubic feet/mo. ~ 9,000 - 11,000 gallons.

Less total water is used when you shower with your other half

4 people (2 of which are babies), it looks like we use about 2500-3000 a month on average. House is very old, but appliances/toilets are all pretty new.

I'd have to look it up, ours is probably pretty low actually.

Just the wife and I, and we're pretty conservative and take fast showers etc.

Farm = a lot of water. I keep at least 1 hose running 24/7 during the winter. For most of this winter, there were 3 hoses with a light trickle of water coming out of them.

Care to elaborate why you have a hose running 24/7 ....? Same question for the 3 trickling water hoses.... ????

WHY DrPizza, WHY???

Well for one, the (slightly) warmer water coming up from the ground plus the fact that the water is moving, will keep the pipes from freezing.

No idea. I have a well.

When I lived on well water, the well would run dry every so often in the summer. We had just enough water to drink from and sometimes didn't have enough water to even flush the toilets. We had to take showers periodically at the local YMCA and haul buckets of dirty pond water to force-flush toilets after they filled up.

If we had water in the summer, it was literally showers that took seconds. We also never flushed the toilet until it had poo in it :awe:

So that my animals can drink water? Seems like a pretty good reason to me. Leaving it trickling keeps the hose from freezing up, and keeps the water buckets from turning into solid blocks of ice.

I don't live in an area where water is a scarce resource. If it were, I'd use water heaters in the water buckets instead. That's a lot of electricity being wasted - 1500 watts times three. The well water is above freezing by enough that unless I don't have the water trickling enough, the hoses don't freeze up, even with the -20F temperatures we had.

3 People at my house (me and two kids) and bill says 2014 Average Winter Consumption - 114 Gallons Per Day so around 3500 a month. Being bald makes taking 5 minute showers very easy.

I would think it would factor on the amount of people in the household, how many loads of laundry is being done on a weekly basis. If you have a softener, dishwasher, etc. I think the amount of water consumption sounds pretty normal in your household.
