around 750GB.

Since we r talking about hd space here, can someone tell me the right way to raid0 two hard drives? I got 4 drives connecting to my raid controller on my mobo: 3 120g and 1 160g. I raid0 two of the 120g, and they r the master drives in each channel. Is that the best way to connect them?

120g Main PC
80g Second PC
320g Personal Server
520 gig total.

My question to the masses is this: How do you manage your files? My file server is screwed up. I've got 14,758 photos, 20,853 MP3's and other backups stored and all were at one time or another in various stages of edit. Keeping up with it has been a major headache. It would have been easier to manage if I had started out with this much storage instead of adding drives one at a time. I cleaned out about 80g's of space yesterday and could realistically clean out another 30-50g's if I knew exactly what edits were no longer needed. I use Photoshop and a single photo often find it's way into a dozen others. I also edit my MP3's to normalize, cut noise or add reverb. Many stages of editing there as well.

I voted for 100-200Gbs.
Of course 200Gb is actually less than that in real life due to the way HD Manufacturers label their drives...

I have a 80Gb & 120Gb Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 7200RPM 8Mb Cache Hard Drives in my Main Rig,
I have a 40Gb Maxtor DiamondMax Plus8 7200RPM 2Mb Cache & a 20Gb IBM DeskStar 40GXP 5400RPM 512kb Cache, on my shelf, which`ll be used on a second rig soon.
And a 15Gb 4200RPM Drive in my iPod.
So in total, i could say 275Gb. But only 200Gb of that is in "full time" usage at the moment and/or is used for actual data and not music.

Two WD 60GB Caviar
One Maxtor 60GB DiamondMax 9
One WD 40GB Caviar
One IBM 80GB DeathStar (This won't last long, better not even include it )

Overall I have 300GB. I have about 10gb left overall and most of it is taken up by anime, downloads, music and all the other net-goodies that we're not supposed to have (except pr0n ... not a single byte taken up by it )

Main Rig:
3*160 GB RAID 0 (In the box waiting for install)
2*120 GB Internal
1*120 GB Firewire
1*006 GB 2.5" USB
1* 20 GB Archos MP3 USB

W2k Mail Server
1*40 GB Internal

Linux Slackware webserver+ftp
1*80GB

On the shelf wondering what to do with
1*80 GB
1*40 GB

I use my main rig for DV editing. The 3*160 drives are awaiting me choosing a RAID card for installation. One of the 120 GB drives is used for Photos, audio, and other large files.
The Servers are just that, and the Linux server (w/samba) serves as an overflow if I ever run out of room on my main rig as well as functioning as a web/ftp server.

The shelved drives are brand new and will probably go in a new system for me or my father-in-law.

1.1 TB total storage.

I've got 80gig and I'm scratching my head as to how to use it up if I could have found a smaller faster drive for less I would have done it. I've got a couple gig in photos and a couple more in MP3's that my wife wanted to put on her mp3 player. Other than that we use the TV for a TV and the CD player for a CD player. Why compromise the quality of a dedicated unit for the sake of being able to say you can do it with your computer?

Oh! We're counting other devices! Okay, 360 in the main rig, plus 40 in my replay tv, + 120 in my Xbox, + 75 Firewire harddrive, + an 8 gig original xbox drive that does nothing....

360+40+120+75+8 = 603gigs

Wow, I had no idea that I had 0.6 terabytes lying around my house.

/dev/hda is a 27GB WD drive that will soon be replaced by a 120GB WD drive, which should bring me up to about 1TB if you also count the Maxtor 250GB external firewire drive that I don't have currently mounted.

Mostly pr0n...
