How many hours have I played Quake 1 in twenty years and I only just noticed this?

In my defence, 99% of the time I've been listening to NIN was because the CD was in the drive, I've listened to a few tracks that my wife likes otherwise.

Crickey that's a long time before noticing!

The only reason I still have the original Quake cd is becuase technically it's a NIN cd. Sort of. In a way. And I was, at one point, sadly a bit completist about that (kind of lost that habit somewhere along the way, what with music cds essentially losing all value!).

No doubt ... in all fairness though Q2 was a much better game IMO.

I noticed this when I first got the shareware demo CD back in the day.

I reinstalled it when nVidia released the RT version.

How so? The original Quake was more ambience than music. It was good, but not really something you'd listen to. Sonic Mayhem did an excellent job on Quake II. They also contributed to Quake III Arena and made their own "Quake III Arena: Noise" album. It was very listenable outside the game where the Quake I stuff really wasn't... well, unless you needed some spooky ambience music for your Halloween display or something and didn't want it to sound like a party.

I liked it and I like NIN but I didn't think Quake II's music was a "let down" in any way.

Same, except my buddy gave it to me for my birthday the week I got my first IBM-clone PC (September 1996) and I noticed that as soon as I looked at it.
