There's no proof that 3000 miles is better than say 7500 miles between changes.

Those oil companies are laughing all the way to the bank with people changing their oil so frequently.

Like someone said, with modern motor oil, frequent oil changes just aren't needed.

I think a good rule is every 6 months or 6-8000 miles, whichever comes first.

Yeah, people cahnge their oil WAY too often. I go about 5k, as Ford says to. I have been told by a few people that up to 7500 on regular oil is just dandy in most cars. I am at about 5.3k right now. Time for a change soon.

I used to listen to a show called car talk (guys out of cambridge, mass I think) They had a caller who moved to britain. She used synth, and went to an oil change place at 3k and they told her to leave. They said come back in 7k more miles. She was freaked out and wondered if something was different about british autos. The car talks guys said with synth, 10k+ is fine for any car. They said if you change your oil filter every 5, then you can't even tell the difference between 10k and 5k with synth. I thought it interesting.

I was asking a friend about a truck he had owned for almost two years. It was an old, nasty, beat up looking thing. He actually said "I haven't even had to change the oil yet." :Q

Heheh.. my grandma saw that 100,000 mile tune up stuff when she bought her new Taurus last year... I asked her when she last got her oil changed about 6 months later and she tells me she hasn't gone 100,000 miles yet. Gasp! That car had 10,000 miles on it and had not had the oil changed from the factory fill. Gasp! I took that car down to some oil change place and got it changed pronto!

I try to change mine around 3 mo/3k miles. Usually every 3-4 months, despite what the manufacturer recommmends (I believe 7,500 miles). Even though oil is better, my commutes are about 4-5 miles at a time.

The problem is, water builds up in the oil and if the engine doesn't get hot for a long enough period of time, the water won't burn off. The water will damage the engine. If you have synthetic and do alot of highway driving, you should just replace the filter and add a quart, because it will never break down any water is being burned off.

I have used Prolong, some other unknown additive and most recently Restore in a couple cars tha I have owned. I can notice an difference almost immeadiately, especially if I put it in while the enigne is idling. As strange as it sounds, almost instantly I can tell that the engine isn't work as hard to idle.

25,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. Change the filter every 6 months. Using Amsoil and that is the service interval. Totally synthetic, I love it.

Amsoil is awesome, but no I am not a dealer.

I used it, but just once in my last car, (before I sold it), and I didn't change it for 25K miles. But you have to change the filters at 12.5K, (if you use their special filters). Even after 25K the oil was slippery and looked good. It didn't look perfectly clean, but better than most oil at 3k.

I haven't had time to start using it in my new vehicle yet, but I will.
