Ok, so the vue is looking more and more better....

Basically by the time I dump my Tivo subscription, cable card, digital boxes and Time warner fees...I'm getting it for "free". I'd save about $30 a month over what I'm paying now, get 10x the number of stations and bit more freedom to watch it in other parts of the home/remotely with ipads.

I like Vue, but I've had a few issues with it. My two biggest are repeating live TV and sync issue. So like when watching live TV sometimes it will just randomly replay a few seconds over again. And with the sync issues, on some channels the audio won't be in sync with the video. My last live TV watch was the NBA draft and the audio was a good .5 second behind the video. Drove me nuts. I've seen some other complaints about it, so hopefully it gets fixed soon.

counting the internet is silly. You'd be paying for the internet anyways.
Many people who aren't gamers can get the cheapest internet possible and be quite happy if they didn't stream video. Thus streaming video may incur additional monthly fees if you choose to upgrade the internet just for this streaming.

So, ultimately you should only include here the extra costs for the internet due to streaming.

What device are you watching over? From what I'm reading the Fire stick sucks for it. Fire box is the best. Followed by PS4 and then PS3.

Truth be told, we would likely be doing most of our viewing from "DVR'D" stuff or from the on-demand selection. Very little would be truly live.

I went back and looked at my Time Warner Bills the last couple months.
December 2015 - $64
April - $77
May - $88
June - $97

DUFUQ?

That's with 15 meg internet, basic cable (just locals), a cable card and two digital boxes.

Yeah I'm calling and bitching about that.

Shit, really? That's significantly cheaper than what I was paying for similar. I cut them a few months ago, very glad I did.

I would likely just use my phone for all of the miscellaneous internet stuff if I didn't want access to video.

The home internet is a direct replacement for the old cable TV service with the added benefit of Google being able to find a bunch of gray market content.

I guess I'm not a complete cord cutter, though I was for about 3 years.

Comcast offered me "basic" + HBO (which includes AMC, CNN/FOX USA and a few others, but no sports) + my ~80mb internet for $63 after taxes/fees, so I've been on that for the last 3 years without a rate hike.

So I add Netlix and Amazon to that and I'm good to go.

It seems pretty good, I tried Sling, the interface is just god awful.

i also tried sling for a month while Euro16 is on just payed 20.00 but i only could watch a channel at a time ,they want 5 bucks more to watch 2 or 3 channels at same time, well screw them, already canceled anyway.i Have a 36'' satellite dish with a an HD Satellite receiver with OTA and an outdoor big antenna 36 free chan,i have a couple of Rokus and when soccer season starts i sign in for Fubotv 20 bucks a month, for soccer from Spain,Portugal,Italy,Mexico,Germany leagues, all other leagues i have a few PC's that give me all other soccer games all over the world for free.
don't need no TV provider a matter fact i hate them all.i saved so much money these 8 years i didn't have TV providers and i never missed any of my favorite games.

you guys all use satelite internet or something? FIOS and most other ISP's run cables to your house so that you can use the internet. it's actually the same cord that your tv comes through too if you get it.

It's pretty commonly understood that cord cutting = cutting your TV package. You obviously need Internet. It's not a literal cord cutting...

I have Netflix all year round, and I get HBO Now whenever Game of Thrones is on.

I use a PS4 for Vue.

Antenna with TiVO OTA Roamio (free)
Netflix ($9)
Amazon Prime (free)
Streaming site (free) newsgroups for other shows i want (GoT. Walking Dead etc)

Total = $9. I dont count Amazon Prime cause i dont pay for prime for its streaming option.

This is pretty much what I'm doing as well, plus HBO Now ($15 and NFL Game Pass ($100/year). I only really use Amazon Prime every once in awhile when I feel like watching SG-1. I wouldnt pay for it just for the video service. Before the Roamio I was using the broadcast channels on AppleTV/Roku, but I decided to get the Roamio for live sports.

the real question is how much is that costing you including the internet connection and devices that are needed?

You really can't say Amazon Prime is free when it cost 99 a year.
What is your internet costing?

I'm really looking into cutting the cord. I had a killer deal from Comcast when they were going door to door. I had 75meg up and down internet. Let's just say I had every high def channel except cinamax and showtime. I had hall the sports and all the high def channels for $109 for 2 years and I had the 6 channel DVR included. I wish I could get that deal again but nope not even close.

I had to switch to FIOS and I'm only on 50 megs and lost quite of bit HD channels and lost HBO. I'm now paying $129 a month sigh.

I don't know why you keep asking about internet costs. I'd say for nearly all of us, we'd have internet regardless of streaming services or not... which means it's a sunk cost and isn't necessary for this comparison.

I use:
-Netflix (just raised to $10/month)
-PlayStation Vue ($45/month)

I also have Amazon Prime, but don't use it for streaming so I don't count it for that. PlayStation Vue IMO was a game changer, and while it's not a perfect solution it's pretty damned awesome. It's nearly everything I wanted on cable (minus NFL network) that streams on up to 5 devices for close to or cheaper than a comparable cable package. They just released their Roku app, which means regardless of whether I'm at my gf's apartment or my own house I have access to the same channels. I'm also not under contract, so can stop it at any time if I'm not using it without punishment... and then restart it without having to schedule an installation.

which is exactly why the term is as dumb as it gets.

This looks pretty cool. I may try out the 75 channel/$45 plan. So just to be clear, you can use this service like an online dvr, where you just select a bunch of favorite shows then watch them whenever you want?

remember the ~early cable internet days when you only had to order internet and you could just split the feed at the wall and get free standard cable TV?

I've never paid for cable. Never had streaming or OTA for a long time, either. Just played online games.

Now I have Netflix, a friend's HBO account and OTA. Internet is $35/mo for 100mb.

Playstation Vue
Just signed up for the free trail last Sunday. Started out using it on my old PS3 and have already bought a FireTv box. On the PS3 it was a bit laggy specifically if you leave the TV running in the background and bring up the guide. With the Firetv box it is very snappy and that isn't an issue. The interface is a bit clunky but I can live with that to save $60 a month. I just have the standard $30 a month plan since going to the $45 a month plan only ads one channel I'd like to have, Velocity. They just added support for the Roku and Android but from what I've read the PS4 and Fire Tv are still the way to go. Planning to head down to the cable company today and have my cable shutoff.

One of the bigger cons of Vue is it only supports stereo sound for now. Hopefully that gets upgraded in the near future. Just got back from Comcast looks like I'm actually going to save $90 a month at least for the next 12 months. They upgraded my internet speed and gave me the special 12 month rate. Just have to remember in a year to knock it back down to normal speed.

Also have Netflix, Amazon, and Kodi.

I'd love one of the new Tivos, but DAYUM they're expensive...especially if you want multiroom viewing. You can easily drop $800 on a 4 TV setup

I've never paid for TV. No subscriptions. I take whatever's free. No TV now even. Just Hulu and YouTube on the PC.

There was a time when I had free cable. When the cable guy wised up, I just went back to OTA broadcast.

While I do watch Netflix, Amazon Prime & Sky Go I will not cut the "cord" until the content is vastly improved, so many big films/TV Shows not present it's stupid.
