I hadnt heard of this Playstation Vue before. Sounds interesting. Shows its only $30 for the 55+ channel line up. I will have to see if any of those channels have shows id actually be interested in.

The only issues I have with services like this and Sling is commercials + Limited or NO back catalog.

It looks like the price goes up $10 if they provide local channels in the area.

The advantage with Vue is that it's effectively a cable provider, thus, you get access to the On Demand and "now" apps on the various streaming devices for any channel you get with your service.

We have Vue and have been very happy with it.

I thought about it for a while, but the price even at the bottom tier is just too expensive. We have a soft budget of $35 for our streaming services so we would have to cancel everything just to get Vue.

Maybe some day though.

I dropped cable early this year. I was able to get in on a Tivo Roamio OTA with lifetime service. I hardwired my place with Ethernet and got a Tivo Mini, so the upstairs Roamio and indoor mounted antenna services both TVs.

I'm pretty happy with it.

I have Amazon Prime, but I hardly use the video service.

I just subscribed to Sling yesterday. The buffering and slow interface already turns me off. I've tried it on both my Amazon Fire appliances and my XBone. Slow and clunky... and no record on top of that??? Blah.

If you are really concerned about this I assume that free forum legal advice isn't good enough anyway. Piracy is not for the risk averse.

I wasn't so much after legal advice as I was a technical explanation of what is happening and the likelihood that you could get caught doing it.

I signed up for the Playstation Vue trial. The streaming quality is excellent. The UI is kinda weak on the Roku, but I dont want to pull my PS4 out of storage so I'll probably use the individual channel apps on the Apple TV. Its kinda weird that you cant add a bunch of shows to your list if they arent airing that moment. There are some recommended shows, but for example, I know PTI is on ESPN. I cant add it to my list of shows. There doesnt seem to be a guide either. I may hook up my firetv and see if the UI is that much better.

Man, its been so long since I seen the holiday Twilight Zone marathon's on SyFy.

I know Vue isn't suppose to be as good on the Roku as the PS3/4 or Firetv yet. There is a guide on both of those, it would really suck without one. Hook the firetv or ps4 up. It is still clunky to use on those but it is usable. I couldn't find PTI either but there is a search feature or there is on the ps3/4 and Firetv that lets you add shows that aren't currently airing.

vue runs much better on firetv than ps3.

I just switched from a ps3 to a firetv box so I agree. The ps3 though still has a good but laggy interface that isn't dumbed down like the Roku's supposedly is.

bah...must have put the FireTV in storage as well, but on the plus side I saw the PS4 in the closet. Then I remembered why I stopped using the PS4 for media...no remote! Oh well, I need put some stuff in the storage unit anyways.

Well...I did it! As of today, no more Dish Network!

TWC has a $10 basic cable plan that you can add on to your Internet connection. It allows you to stream about 20 channels in HD, and the app is built into most smart TV's. Got that, hooked up a whole-house antenna, and have Netflix, Hulu, and Prime.

Between all of those, we're saving about $100 a month.

I've cord cut for a long time.

I mainly just watch free YouTube documentaries. Podcasts are also big for me. I also have a large blu ray collection.

I have a really hard time watch commercial television now. Especially since it is now digital, you can't really flip through channels like you used to be able to. Changing channel actually feels slower than YouTube, because each change has a delay of 3-4 seconds.

I think guides have replaced channe flipping

I have two rooftop antennas. One to HDTV card in one desktop, the other to the other desktop's HDTV card (can't install two of these cards in one computer).

No subs at all. I get stuff from the library, DVDs, BRs, mostly movies, but some TV shows. I buy some TV shows in sets online.

I figure I want to do something to get NBA next year, will haunt this thread for ideas. I was thinking cable (my HDTV cards can handle QAM), but I wonder if there's an alternative. Sling??? I want to be able to timeshift and skip commercials. Anybody?

For now, i only have a netflix (9.99 E, 2 devices + HD) subscription.
And sometimes i watch some detectives at a free television station streaming site.
Since here where i live, more and more streaming services come available, i might subscribe to another one if the content they have available is to my taste.

Sling with ESPN if you're a basketball fan in general. Plenty of games on espn or tnt to satisfy a NBA fan. Sling and local fox sports regional channel if you like watching local nba team.

I was thinking about committing to PS Vue, but then I started to do the math. I'm paying $83/month for internet (100Mbps+). Adding 140 channels and upgrading my internet up to 200Mbps is only $7 for the first 12 months, then $27 the next 13+ months. There are other combinations of more channels and/or same 100Mbps internet with different commitment periods which pretty much come out to the same: $2400 for 2 years. Any of these plans should allow the TV Everywhere stuff to work.

It looks like I am potentially being overcharged on internet by $5/month. Its hard to know for sure because I have an older plan with an added speed upgrade fee. My speed test shows over 160Mbps in the evening, so I don't know if I'm being charged for 100Mbps or 200Mbps, but its cheaper than the 200Mbps price. Anyways, for the internet speeds I want + something like PS Vue is $476 more over 2 years.

Whats kinda lame is there is only like 4 or 5 channels that I want that I can't get OTA.

Forgive the reboot of necroed thread. If there's a more modern one, what is it?

My sister recommended me today the curiosity stream. Anyone into this?

CuriosityStream

Curiosity Stream

Edit: $12/year for the HD stream, I don't see any trials, but $12 isn't a big hit for a year. My TVs are all 4K, but I'm not gonna go for ~$42/year for their 4K(Also, I figure there's no guarantee that what they're streaming as 4k is really 4k!). The only big jump in res that turned me on was VHS/SVHS-->DVD.

Also, there's this:
