Raise your hand. Is it by choice or by circumstance?

ME! 42 and no kids. Engaged and no plans to have them. Always a choice.

Circumstance I'd say. I'm......old with no kids. However I have been with someone for over ten years, and have step children and grandchildren and it is awesome.

I'm close enough, 32 not married and no kids, and happy that way. I sometimes think it would be cool to have a girl friend and eventually get married and have kids, but in general I just can't fathom the responsibility and busy life it would create. I just watch how busy my sister and brother in law are - or anyone with kids, I just can't imagine that. If I do ever decide I want a girlfriend and find one and eventually get married, I would probably choose not to have kids.

Me. No desire for kids. I was going to get a vasectomy a few years ago, but the people who were going to do it were so disorganized that I left. Not something to cheap out on.

people who have children should be arrested for child abuse. the world is going to end soon. why are you having kids? what kind of lives will these children have when the oceans are dead acidified pools of plastic waste and the sun is blocked out by 24 hours of brown smog haze. how selfish and utterly inconsiderate to bring your spawn into this world for your own entertainment only to leave them to die in a dying wasteland

I means seriously haven't you guys seen blade runner? stop having children before you ruin more people's lives.

I do not share my toys unless it is with the wife. Nor do I make compromises easily, and having children is a chosen compromise. Childless, thankfully, and married for more than a couple of decades now. All by choice. But my choice doesn't give me a tax deduction for that, but I keep the public school system financial burden.

There but for the grace of god go I into fatherhood.

no kids, by choice...

Considering the limits of this once nice planet we exist on... it's almost greedy to force someone to exist here to fill some vacuum in your being.

47, married, no kids, and completely by choice. I have zero regrets and I think I'd slit my wrists if weekends revolved around endless soccer games for Billy, music lessons for little Susie, and all that stuff, along with practices through the week.

Regardless of all of that, I'd like to hear from the childless married folks about how their families reacted. My family was 100% fine with my decision, while my wife's family poked and prodded for years until they finally got the picture that we were dead serious. My MIL went as far as calling us selfish, which is the dumbest and most illogical thing I've heard but unfortunately, seems to be the insult of choice towards people like us. After calling us "selfish," her very next comment was literally "Who is going to take care of you when you're old?" I'm so glad she showed us how "selfless" her intentions were.

38 with no kids by choice, got snipped around 5 years ago to (hopefully) guarantee it. I have absolutely no regrets about it and in fact I appreciate more as I get older, our nephews/nieces in small doses is more than enough. I sometimes worry about my wife when we'll be retired maybe having some regrets but one expected advantage of no kids is we have a lot more money now, and will have a lot more money at retirement where whenever she feels down I'll just whisk her away somewhere to forget.

IndyColts, neither my parents or hers was overly concerned about it. They may have some regrets behind our backs but to our face they support our decision.

Mid 30's, no mortgage, no car loan, no family. I can live a cheap and irresponsible life and I'm honestly happy.

At some stage I think I should "spread my seed"; I feel it's my responsibility to pass on superior genes after all. I'm happy I'm a male and will still be fertile for a few decades yet.

Maybe in my 50's or 60's I can impress a young woman with my meager fortune long enough to do the deed...

Circumstance, we waited too long to try and when we did it never happened.

Indy: My mom was disappointed that she never had grandchildren but she was never over the top about it.
