I used to ride Yamaha Virago before I sold it. It was stock, and already loud more than enough for me. I hate open pipes and homos who cruise up and down boulevard in assless chaps showing off their mad chrome.

Don't have any bike now, but I plan on getting a BMW or another Jap cruiser when I hit midlife crisis. Someday I'd like to do a cross-state trip on a bike with my wife.

Ioic2003,

Not to say I don't like the bikes you listed, I personally prefer a more "forward" foot control and not so much laying down on the bike itself. I think thats a big reason why I did not do any extensive searching on a street/sports bike and instead looked into crusiers.

Personally, I don't.

But My Stepfather and all of his friends do. As a matter of fact, anyone living in Ga (Specifically Middle GA) they have a ride coming up in April.

In for the Plug DixieBikeFest

I'm sorry guys but it must be said that Harleys/easy rider-style bikes are simply not cool. Too many of the riders/bikes have the lame skulls and black leather + tassles look that to me screams 'homosexual'. Way too many beards and open face helmets (the riders remind me of mr.Slave from southpark... you know, kinda... gimpy). The whole 'bad to the bone' image just seems like a total farce: how can you be 'hard' when you ride a ludicrously slow and easy to ride bike?

The bikes themselves are horribly inefficiant, slow and pretty much just about making a loud noise and showing off chrome. Little to no skill is required to handle them and they pretty much are the ultimate mid-life crisis/micropenis 'cure'. It's 99.8% image, 0.2% performance. The open face helmets, the stupid artwork painted everywhere, big boots... I mean, tassles on the handlebars?! that what 5 year old girls have on their bicycles!

Give me a bike that you can see has been shaped around the design of the frame (function over looks) any time, and an engine that actually does something. I really despise inefficiancy... how you can make a 1.3L engine only wheeze out ~100mph I'll never know.

My opinion, of course...

I rode sport bikes for 20 years before I bought a Harley. Some folks want to slow down and take it easy. I enjoy riding my Harley. I no longer feel the need to race around like a bat out of hell anymore, much less suffer the constant tickets and ridiculous insurance.

If something is not your style, fine... but belittling people for their style choice only makes you look closed minded and myopic. Especially when that choice doesn't affect you whatsoever.

I agree. I don't ride a Harley, it's not what I'm into. But that's ME. I wouldn't talk down about someone else's bike. That's not cool. Look at it this way, if everybody was into the same thing it would be boring.

BTW, I ride a Kawi Z750S

Yes and Yes

I wash it about once a week when the riding weather is good (it was washed just before the picture was taken), and the San Jaquin Valley here in California has been pretty dry for the past couple of years.

I didn't buy my VRod for the speed. I could be like you yamakawasuzuki guys the way you belittle other bikes because you think yours is faster. That's not what it's about, what matters is if you are satisfied. I could turn the token and look down my nose at you because you bought a "cheap plastic" bike, but I don't because I don't think that way. And FYI, 190mph+ Hayabusas get eaten by Kaz's VRod, so I would be careful before making assumptions CVSin.

Harleys don't look good and they sound horrible

Actually, stock Harleys are very quiet. In fact, they are quieter than most stock Japanese cruisers (Harley clones).

Your ignorance is as bad as your taste. Harleys are so bad sounding and so bad looking that all the Japanese bike companies and a few euro companies have entire lines modeled after them and have spend billions in R&D copying them.

Well it seems that most remove that exhaust and want to be the loudest damn thing on the road. I just can't stand loud Harleys or loud car stereos. Is it a contest to see who can make the most noise or what?

And I have bad taste? lol I guess that is a matter of opinion and my opinion is they are butt-ugly.

On a side note, my dislike for Harleys is not as deep as you may think. I respect the fact that it seems a lot of Harley clubs do a lot of charity work and are usually really good people, but why does the exhaust have to come off? And don't give me the tired "loud pipes save lives" BS

BMW K1200 Sets Two Land Speed Records At Bonneville Salt Flats

BMW K 1200 S SHAKES BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS SETTING WORLD LAND SPEED RECORD

Woodcliff Lake, NJ - A 2006 production model BMW K 1200 S has set a world land speed record in the 1000 - 1350 cc stock, partially streamlined, naturally aspirated motorcycle class at Utah's famed Bonneville Salt Flats. The motorcycle, piloted by 56-year-old Andy Sills, of San Francisco, CA, reached an average speed of 173.57 mph and top speed of 176.789 mph after two runs on the vast, white plains, where hundreds of land speed records have been set and broken since the early 1900s in a variety of automobile and motorcycle classes.

"It was a rare opportunity for me and BMW," commented Sills, an avid BMW enthusiast, who, collectively, has amassed more than 300,000 miles on four BMW motorcycles within the last seven years. Sills went on to say, "The best part is that our record on the stock BMW K 1200 S matched to the mile, the historic last record run of 173.68 mph by Ernst Henne on a specially equipped streamlined BMW! He must have been watching over us."

Sills, who began making his mark on the Bonneville Salt Flats four years ago and who holds the world 80cc and 100cc motorcycle streamliner records, also clocked a record speed of 169 mph, riding the K 1200 S two-up with passenger Erin Hunter. The pair received a standing ovation from a cheering crowd of fellow competitors as they made their way into the pits.

The records, which were ratified on October 25, 2005, were set September 8, 2005 according to rules set forth by the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the century-old, Swiss-based governing body for five motorcycling disciplines (road racing, motocross, trial, enduro and track racing).

Another record at Bonneville was achieved by Brian Parriott and San Jose BMW, fielding the BMW K 1200 R Power Cup bike, setting an AMA speed record for unstreamlined motorcycles in the 1300cc class at an average of 164.480 mph and top speed of 167.331mph. San Jose BMW is also no stranger to Bonneville, having previously set the 1000cc world record with their infamous R 100 "Wrecking Ball".

The new BMW K 1200 S is the most powerful motorcycle ever produced by BMW Motorrad. A 167 horsepower engine delivers performance of 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. Yet, its unbridled engine power is effortlessly controlled by a newly designed six-speed gearbox and an all-new front suspension system, called the Duolever - another first-ever innovation found on the K 1200 S, delivering comfort, nimble control and an unprecedented capability for speed. The BMW K 1200 S has been available for sale through authorized BMW Motorrad retailers as of May of this year.

thats not even possible... 176 is SLOW by todays standards of sportbikes..
most on radar have been clocked well over 185+ stock...

i just posted radar logs from every magazine and web site above that show the 2000 busa went 189 stock...

Yah and HOW much cash did you harley pukes have to throw as that POS to get it to go that fast?

you forget our bikes do that STOCK..
160-170hp is stock figures for 1000cc sportbikes these days...

with mods we can easily go WAY over 200hp and bust the crap outa the 200mph barrier and be in the 8 second quarter range. AND we can still outhandle any bike on the planet including the high dollar Ducatis and still cost less after mods..
AND it costs less and the bikes engines last longer than Hardley (running) Davidson..

I say bring what ya got... we run a 45 mile highway loop around Houston at 190+ MPH during the summer here for cash.. and there are several Mr Turbo bikes runnign 250+ hp around here for topend racing.

or enter one of those POS into CCS/AMA racing... they wont even let you run it agaisnt real bikes becasue you arnt competitive..

They class all those slow bikes together and let them beat the buells and the other slugs..

Sorry harley hasnt been a speed contender since they were a brand new company.. and there were no jap bikes... after Honda came on the scene harley went down hill in the speed and sales depts. read that on any history page.

I like harleys if
#1 they arnt compared to real performance bikes..
#2 i dont have to pay for the overpriced pig.

Ah, so you're one of those fuckwads, eh ?

there are very few times that I take pleasure in watching the crews hose a bloody mess off the freeway but I'll make a exception for you and your friends. Keep that ****** on the track, not our freeways. I don't care if you're doing it at 3 am when the roads are mostly empty, you're still a jackass.

Houston is already a dangerous place for bikers and you aren't helping the situation, you're making it worse for the rest of us.

QFT

Its because of the "crotch rockets" that makes a bad impression on motorcycling (sports and cruisers alike).
