Similar for me, except the oldest car I ever drove was a 1982 Pontiac Phoenix. Real POS.

I drove an '85 Dodge Aries (very similar to your car) for years. Much better than the Phoenix.

Edit: P.S. 22HP has to be a misprint, right? Mine was apparently 96HP.

I think that was meant to be a joke. My old Plymouth was WAY underpowered... you had to build up a head of steam and accelerate ahead of time in order to make it up a steep hill. It was rated for 84HP in theory, but there is no way that old thing was making more than 70.

It also had a fun issue where the car would get stuck in park if you parked it on a steep hill. You had to get out and rock the car to get it to disengage. I once got it stuck on purpose and made my little sisters friends get it unstuck... they never asked me for a ride again after that

We had a 85 (?) Caravelle that had a mighty 96hp being pumped through a 3spd auto.
Was the first car I ever drove and roads were filled with comparable cars and trucks so it never really felt underpowered. It kept up with traffic and could cruise at legal speeds ok.
Then we got an Oldsmobile 1987 delta 88 with the "mighty" 3.8. That thing felt like rocket coming from 70's and early 80's cars. Made all the Subaru's, Datsun, Toyota's and Hondas my friends started out with felt like pokey underpowered shitboxes.

Did have 2 cars in my circle of friends I will always remember for being comically underpowered turds
1981 Subaru GL
1984 Blazer...with the 4 cylinder
A friend's 4 spd manual Chevette seemed entertaining in comparison.

Worst one I had was an 81 plymouth horizan with a VW 1.7l 3 speed auto with 63hp. It was a very tired beater by the time I got it and had maybe 45hp but I drove it for a year and other than the master cylinder crapping out I had no issues after fixing stuff when I first got it.

Born 75 and owned a 67 ford galaxie 500xl.

All photos are representative except for the plane.
My first car was a 1959 apache panel van.

We had a 1956 Apache 1 ton flatbed on the farm.

The plane is also a 59.

I am a 60.

Now imagine you had a sporty looking version of that car and had to pay sports car level insurance.
My daytona had the same engine as that reliant, was just as slow, but had an insurance premium because of its looks. lol.

Grandfather had a late 70's/early 80's truck that was likely older than me, I tooted around on that on their farm when I was a youngster. If tractors count, theirs was probably from the 60's or 70's. Drove that too.

My newest car is currently a 2004 Toyota Tacoma. My oldest is a 1995 daily-driver Dodge Neon with 283,000 miles.

I drove a 1969 beetle 1300-s in high school, and a slew of 1980's Ford Escorts (couldn't seem to kill them), 3 series BMW and Opels before settling down to whatever was cheap and reliable if/when I needed a new(er) vehicle. Styling wasn't ever a consideration, only reliability and cost to maintain. Handling was a plus, but not considered in the price/need formula.
