Yeah, just touch the space bar and it turns on. I've got a PS48X, also has a feature called "Automatic Power Up", which allows you to set the system to power up automatically at the time of day you specify.

My computer is on all of the time, so i don't use this feature, but it is a pretty cool feature to have.

I use this feature on my k7s5a AMD rig. The case is inside a cabinet, so it is just easier to have this feature enabled. I don't use it on my Asus P4 rig, though.

I turn off my computer every night and turn it back on in the morning. I leave it on the during the day but I use sleep mode whenever I am not at the computer. My computer is a little unstable when I play games or watch divx files so I usually end up restarting the computer 2-3 times a day. Is it better to leave the computer on 24/7? Doesnt it take more power?

Had this feature on my Asus P3B-F. Just tape the space bar and the PC comes on. Very convinent. Hmmm I wonder if my new Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 support this. Didn't even think to look yet.

Yes im going to be doing this w/ my new pc by a click of a mouse button.

My switch is on its way out and I'm too lazy to fix it so spacebar all the way

I wouldn't do the mouse button, its just too easy to hit it when getting up after turning off the computer.

The only time my computer is off is when I moved it from school or when I do some hardware work. It is only reset for updates and driver stuff.

I'm sure you could get many opinions on this. I personally do like "rbloedow" and never turn mine off. I believe it is better to leave it on because "so called experts" claim that one of the worst things to hurt your components is for them to heat up, cool down, heat up and so forth. This causes your components to expand and contract. Even if you allow your computer to power down to save energy, it stills leave just enough power to components, like hard drives, etc..., to keep them from this process which reduces their life.

I'd say leave it running and reboot when necessary.

Keeping it on all the time would increase the life span of a hard drive? I had myself convinced that my last HDD died because it was the first one I ever left on for a few days at a time w/o shutting off.

luck of the draw really. My laptop is still running, got it 1999. and for 18 months, i always had it on. Periodically rebooting for turning off if i was away for an extending weekend.

nope, i think it would really annoy me aswell, always booting just because i caught a key...

actually i have a "user" key on this keyboard that i can press to put it into standby. i really, REALLY hate it and am tempted to unscrew the keyb just to destroy the button logitech cleverly positioned it right beside both Escape and the F-Lock key (another extremely annoying feature - unlike numlock, capslock etc, the keyboard alsways boots without the function keys working). To make it twice as bad, the key is actually sunk to it is level with the keyboard surfacem and very easily pressed :Q any idea on killing this stupid key?

My BIOS is set so that I can press CTRL+F1 to turn on my computer, but I've only done that once or twice, because I leave my computer on all the time, as rbloedow and others do. I run Windows XP, and that OS, like Windows NT and 2000, is quite stable (capable of running 24/7 under a good load for several weeks and not needing a reboot). My guess is that the poster who has terrible instability problems (2 or 3 crashes each day) is using the outdated Windows 98 or ME, or [rare chance] has a serious hardware issue.

I can also sympathize with Davegod, because I had a keyboard with Power, Sleep, and Off buttons right underneath the Delete, End, and Page Down buttons (thus, right above the arrow keys). I can not count the number of times I accidentally turned off my computer via those damn piece of sh!t keys. Needless to say, I keep that keyboard in the closet, having replaced it a long time ago with a less annoying model.

My computer can be shut off??

Like others, I never turn either of my PCs off, unless I am gone for an extended period of time (more than just a weekend.)

When you guys says that you leave your computers on all the time do you mean that everything is left on all the time? like the monitor, computer, and speakers? or do you guys put the computer in standby when you are not around?

Use a flathead screwdriver to lever out the key then cover over the hole with som eMacGuyver tape.
