How Many of You Use HDTV as Your Main Display?

I'm still a few years away from this, but it seems like the direction the industry is heading.

Imagine a 65" HDTV display at 1920x1080i, clear text, gaming goodness. Something along the lines of Star Trek - "On screen".

A recent online article talks about prices on mid-range (40-47") sets dropping to as little $1500 street price as soon as this holiday season or the end of the year. Hmm, a few years ago 21" monitors cost as much.

Maybe by this time next year we'll see less Intel vs. AMD, ATI vs. Nvidia posts and more "What size is your HDTV?" posts... nah. Wishful thinking.

I cant fit one on my desk. Besides my office is not big enough for me to sit far enough away to see the whole sceen.

TV's even HDTV do not make good computer monitors.

I know jim knows what he's talking about,
butif an HDTV can give sucha high resolution..I do'nt see how it's a bad choice. If the refresh rate is high as well...normal tvs are pretty bad for output..but I don't know about an HDTV.

I wouldn't mind having a big ole 65" screen to work with, though I have to wonder if that resolution isn't a bit too low for that huge size. Refresh rate would definitely matter too, I get a headache if I have to work very long on a 19" monitor with a refresh rate below 85Hz

Reading text on an interlaced display is torture on your eyes even if the resolution is that high.

There already are 40" HDTV capable TV's selling in that range. Toshiba and Panasonic come to mind. Actual HDTV's of that size, are not going to be in the $1500 range anytime soon. They're extremely rare at any size right now, so a large price drop probably isn't in the picture. It is highly unlikey the prices will drop into mainstream range until they finally decide on a universal standard.

IMO HDTV is good to watch TV or playing games on it but it's still far away if we want to use it as a computer work. I still prefer the SONY 24" for computer work

HDTVs in the sizes you guys are talking about are for the most part, projection. I've been told by a guy who works on my TVs that games on one of these monster televisions can over time damage the lenses of projection tv and he doesn't recommend them for Plasma televisions either but thats just his opinion.
