How many of you will download Windows 8 but not install right away?

I'm mainly just curious, not looking for a thread on what's right or wrong with the OS. I have Windows 8 on my laptop, I am using it a while before I figure out if I want to put it on 2 other computers we use frequently in the house.
I am on the fence about downloading it, on one hand, it's only $40 until the end of the month. On the other, Windows 7 works just fine for me too.
I plan on buying a new SSD for my main gaming computer, so I was thinking I'd install Windows 8 at that time, and put my old SSD in her computer and do the same. I just don't know...
Anyone think there will be major revisions in the 1st service pack that bring back the traditional start menu back?

Only you can decide if you want it or think its worth it,as to service pack I don't think we will see that if at all IMHO,as to Start Menu no I don't think they will bring back the Start Menu why would they?..that goes back to Win95 days and lets be honest its about time they got rid of it ,not needed IMHO,however you are probably aware you can download a free third party mod like Classic Shell if you need it.

More news on Start Menu and Microsoft Blue, looks like its going to stay dead.

Beloved icon of Windows history appears to be in the rear view for good

For those upset about the lack of a start button in Windows 8, prepare yourself for another disappointment -- "Windows Blue", an upcoming short-cycle successor to Windows 8, is not expected to bring the feature back.

The source of this supposed leak is CNBeta, a site with close insider ties at Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), which gained respect by accurately leaking a number of early Windows 8 details.

I am going to download Win 8 Pro before Jan 31 to take advantage of the 40 dollar deal, but will need to save my allowance for awhile to buy an SSD to install it on. In my case, this will be an upgrade from Win XP.

I did get to play around with Win 8 at a store a week or so ago. Within about 5 minutes I "got it". YMMV

In closing, I very much like this site. S/N ratio is very good.

I'm in the group of bought it & downloaded it, but haven't installed it. Partly because I just haven't had time, though this weekend is pretty free and supposed to be quite cold, so maybe that's not an excuse any more. Partly because while I know how to set up a dual boot, I'm not certain about uninstalling it afterwards, if needed, without messing up the MBR or something else.

Does downloading it, registering it, getting the "free" WMC with it, and then making a clone of that setup, and going back to the old OS count ?

I'm planning on doing this before the 31st. Was really just checking if its even possible to download without installing and install later on - but considering there's some free things involved now but not later, I might go ahead with the upgrade and restore using Acronis. Really have no need for Windows 8 at the moment, but feel that touch devices are absolutely the future. Gestures are the main reason my laptops will always be OSX!

I purchased 2 digital downloads at $15 each and 1 retail boxed copy that I got on sale for $40, so 3 licenses in total. I've only installed (dual booted) Win 8 on my 2007 laptop. I have 1 other computer at the moment which I might (but probably won't unless I have reason to in the future) set up a Win 8 multiboot. The boxed copy is there "just in case" I need it for something

I just downloaded the $40 upgrade ISO last night. I don't plan to install it until I build a Haswell-based desktop for it. So that'll be June or so.

I'm using ViStart. I bought it because it was 40 bucks but the future of Microsoft's OS looks bleak indeed aka closed source drama-rama

3 digital copies [@ $15] - 1 installed on the main PC, 1 probably for another PC [I recently inherited a nice wide screen desktop system running Vista with an AMD Phenom - neighbor of my father in law was going to throw it out] and the other as a backup [I've always had at least 1 backup key since WinXP - the difference is Win8 was the 1st OS I've paid for - WinXP Beta program [5 keys], Vista/Win 7 were handed out at MS events].

I got the $15 deal since I bought a Win 7 laptop back in the summer. Just finally installed Windows 8 today so I can't really comment on whether I like it or not. First impressions are:

Windows 8 = Windows 7 - Start Button + Metro UI + right sidebar thing

Overall nothing bad to say so far but it kinda feels like an OS with an identity crisis (Metro vs Explorer desktop). Main reason I installed it was because I've read of snappier performance, faster boot times and shut down times which seem to be true.

I downloaded it with intention of installing it in a VM, but did not really get around to it yet.

I have no intent of installing it on a production system, but I may as well play around with it for curiosity's sake and be able to bash it out of experience rather than based off stuff I heard on the Internet.

I'm still racking my brain whether to buy a copy at the cheap price, in case I get another pc in the future, htpc maybe. But reading all the crap about post-pc world, you'd think we'll never buy another desktop pc ever again .
