I personally think it's a good thing and keeps us honest!

They could also conduct random searches on your residence, automobile, and financial accounts to keep you honest as well if you really want to live like that.

my feelings exactly. I don't do drugs myself (for many reasons), but I don't think that the workplace is the right place to enforce it. It shouldn't be considered a problem until it's actually a problem.

You work for xyz corp you get your 2 weeks vaca per year. you are a top employee performance wise. You return to the states and on your first day back you are asked to pee in a cup. They find prescence of THC in your urine and subsequently fire you.

It is there right to do so as the employer.

I would be perfectly fine with it. The company has rules. If you want to stay with that company, you follow the rules. No where you go, nor any circumstances you are in should change how the company rules affect you nor how you view the company rules.

Careful, possible grammar nightmare: Most people who do not do drugs, do not do them not because of the fact that it is illegal, but that they are just plain unhealthy in the first place.

The argument can be made that there are much worse things than a joint, but think of it this way; The less things one does that is unhealthy, the healthier they will be.

you also don't have anything illegal in your home so it'd be fine for them to do random searches there too?

Personally guilty or not my privacy is more important than my current job. If they wer epaying me 6 or 7 figures I'd reconsider my privacy policy.

So apparantly in your opinion the degree of the privacy violation (drug test vs home search) is irrelevant to whether you would allow it, but the amount they pay you is relevant... hrmmm...

Give me liberty, or give me money!

Exactly. They aren't paying me enough to violate my principles.

If your principles have a price, can I interest you in a career in politics?

that is the basis of new procedures today. no more pee just hair, they can tell what you have done for the past 1-2yrs with this method.

So again is it ok for them to not hire someone who smoked pot legally 2 years ago when they were studying in holland?

According to the originator (Karl Marx) communism originates when the "proletariat" overthrow the "bourgesoise" and establish a dictatorship of the proletariat. However the "if you have nothing to hide whats the problem" attitude might be a good start on the road to totalitarianism.

Jobs should be performance based not based on a chemical that can be found in your body months after you use it. Shame on you propaganda programmed bitches who support the war on personal freedom.

The 'Nothing to hide, nothing to fear' mentality that's so pervasive in this thread really sheds some light on the state of affairs in this country. It's all fine and good until you realize the people who define what is right and wrong by law start having drastically different ideas that you, and you start having things to hide like the books you read, your voting record, your sexual identitiy, etcetera. Where does it end?
