I'm a runner so I'm exempt. I have two pairs of casual shoes, a pair of dress shoes, a pair of sandals, 4 pairs of running shoes, trail shoes, 3 (or 4?) pairs of racing shoes, and I think that might be it!

I have never in my life had more than 1 pair of shoes (unless you count also owning cleats). I'm 21 BTW, so maybe i'll need dress shoes when i get a job, but that will be it.

Why would you need THAT many different shoes for running?
I have a pair of dress, a couple pairs of everyday, boots, and sandals. If I ran, I might add one pair of running shoes. If I did rock climbing, maybe a pair of rock climbing shoes.
If you have 10+ pairs of shoes, something is wrong.
What might that be?Originally posted by: jagec

Your "shoe" keyword alert seems to be working well, Imelda.Originally posted by: mugs
Hopefully it's more than 20

I mean for specific occasions. Obviously you're going to have different pairs for everyday things, work, yard-work, etc., but how many before you are officially frowned upon?
I have one pair of tennis shoes / sneakers, one pair of work boots, and one pair of dress shoes.

What would you need more than one pair of anything for? I mean really...
I would never wear tennis shoes to a funeral for obvious reasons, but aside from cases like that you're right.

When running high mileage it's best to rotate a few pairs of shoes as it lets the foam expand better, so it increases their longevity. Plus, it takes shoes 24-28 hours to dry out after being wet, so while one or two pairs are drying I can still run. Then I have my track spikes, my cross country spikes and my road flats. I'm actually thinking about buying another pair of lightweight shoes for faster runs and marathons.
