How many people have you saved from death?

Ummmmm chalk up 2 more tonight...

One was massive congestive heart failure with an insane flash pulmonary edema for the curious medical types initial blood gas before we intubated was: pH 7.15, Bicarb 39, PCO2 112, P02 39, and measured arterial oxygen saturation of 51.3 :shocked: :shocked: :shocked:

The other was a old lady on blood thinners(coumadin) like about a 6-7 cm head laceration with arterial involvement....she was squirting blood all over the damn place...lost about 500ccs just in the suction canister...I've never seen that attending sew so fast hehe...nor have I ever put a 16 gauge IV in an old lady so fast in my life....actually that was the first time i've ever put a trauma line in someone that old

As a paramedic I've had the honor to help/save many of lives, though I don't really know how many. But last March was a milestone for me. In the same week, I was able to successfully revive 2 middle age men in cardiac arrest. The second patient was even talking to me before we got to the ER. However, the for the first patient, the true heros were the newly trained Park Rangers. Without the early initiation of CPR, the patient more than likely wouldn't have made it. Both patients were successfully discharged from the hospital and are living full lives. That's cool, IMO.

The medical world is just an amazing thing. Even out of total chaos, stress, insurance woes, and lawsuits it's absolutely astonishing how well it still works.

I've thought that there must be a metaphysical aspect of revining/healing/curing people. For you paramedics is there a spiritual or metaphysical aspect to your 'job'?

Haha wasn't over me, but their self esteem was pretty low, and one was multiple times, crazy shit. really glad its over now.
