How many platters (disks) in HDD?

HI,

Can anyone give me a link where can I look up how many disks are in Maxtors HDD lineup? Their datasheets don't list how many disks are used in their drives. just list their capacities...

Also, their power consumption figures... there are only couple current/power values listed in their datasheets...

It depends on the drive model, but in general their newer drives use 80GB or 83GB platters so if you have a current drive you can divide by 80 to find out how many platters you have, ie 160GB drive is 2 platters so is a 120 but it only uses 1 1/2 platters, and a 200 to 250 are 3 platter drives for example as far as I know Maxtor only makes up to 3 platter drives in the 7200rpm catageory although their newest Maxline 3 may go up to 4 or 5 platters now as they have a 300gb drive in the 7200rpm speed. Hope this helps...

I'm planning to buy a new HD, but with minimal inertia (less platers) and power requirements. So I need exact model number to platter number info.

I'm thinking 80GB, 120GB or 160 GB.

WD has 120GB with 2 platters, but wanted to compare with similar Maxtor or Samsung drives.

I'm thinking spending not more than $80-85 on it...

The best would be single platter 80GB or 2 platter 160GB...

IIRC Seagate's Cuda 7200.7 200 GB is still a 2 platter drive, which would make it the biggest 2 platter drive you can get your hands on.
