How many spaces do you put between sentences?

What's with this poll and some of the comments? For some reason, tons of people think two spaces is the rule.

Well it used to be the rule, and many people were formally taught to use two spaces. It is not like it's some random error made without any rhyme or reason.

I put two spaces after periods, one space after any other punctuation mark.

I use two because I was originally instructed to use two. However, I was corrected by my ex-gf (a writer) that it was now appropriate to use one. I still use two because I can't break that habit and it just "looks right" to me.
