I don't know what more important? Storage or better cooling since the SATA drive does block cooling in any case.

I feel I need a minimal of 18 terabytes. I don't like having to install and run games on my external portable hard drive. I'm really curious because I have no idea how many TB you guys have since most of you guys steam library probably dwarf mine in comparison.

Seeing how most new games are 50 GB and more, I have a feeling that even 18 TB is not enough.

What do you guys think? Also how many TB do you guys have?

Did you know you don't have to install the game when you buy it? You can have 3-4 games installed, and when you finish one uninstall it and install something else while you play the other 2-3 games you already have installed.

20 X 50GB is 1TB.

How many games are we talking about?

In my main windows workstation/gaming machine I have 2 4TB wd black drives. < 1TB of that space is used for my steam folder and I have a crap load of games installed. If you think you need a lot of space you should start by buying a 4tb drive and go from there, but you can fit a sh$t load of games on just a 1TB drive....

19TB on my workstation, but it actually does work. 120G for games and it's only half full(too busy working).

18TB s not enough, but $170 for a netbook is a lot of money?

Guys...

Anyway, ~20 TB between by desktop, laptop, and server. See sig rigs.

I don't see what wrong with that?^_^ More storage space = mean more games unless download don't count toward your storage space? If so then face palm.

And a netbook for $170, well I'm just biases to anything that doesn't have good gaming performance.

Also I bought my netbook, total came out to $143 with my gift card and with all the extra included like a $95 and $50 of free stuff, it technically came out to 0 dollars

Using about 300 GB of storage and i am happy it is not very much , it is easy to manage and have several backups . Think complexity increase when data exceeds 1 hd , 4 x 4TB disk should be + 4 x 4TB disk for backup . But a game does not have to be on backup it can just run without backup .

1 x 120GB (current game I am playing + CS6)
1 x 256GB (boot drive for Win7 and Win 8.1; soon will combine to a Win10 single partition)
1 x 1.5TB (Torrent file downloads and majority of Steam games I actually need installed)

2 x 4TB RAID1 NAS (movie, music and pictures)

So in total ~10TB

I used to have 7 TB but I have absolutely no need for that kind of storage. Especially in the age of SSDs, there isn't much reason to run anything off of a massive storage drive or server in a typical home environment. Far better bang for buck to spend money on a decent SSD & just download & install things multiple times than to try to play games off a 4TB HDD imo.

Desktop: 250GB SSD (OS, some games) + 1TB HDD (games, apps, storage). Adding a 512GB SSD soon, retiring the HDD, moving all unnecessary storage to the HTPC.

HTPC: 2x2TB for storage, old 750GB boot drive. Adding a 4TB drive soon, mirroring the 2TB drives.

Various laptops with next to no storage.

I used to hoard a lot of storage before the days of fiber internet and Gbit LAN. Now I just throw a 2Tb in my computer and store everything else on my 16Tb NAS (which is still mostly empty). Any large files that are available online, I just dump knowing I can download again in a few minutes if needed.

Roughly 6Tb, but since everything is mirrored in RAID-1, it only amounts to 3Tb. More than plenty, even with MythTV consuming half of it.

I still remember the 'good old days' when 1gb of storage on a server sufficed for an entire 100 person office.

That's because most of the documents were stored in a room full of file cabinets, photos were stored in slide trays and boxes and the video was on compact and easy to store VHS tapes. Comparing terabytes to office square footage.

Okay I don't understand some of these response. Right now I only have a few games on my hard drive (500gb) and I only have 10 gb of free space left. This is only a FEW games so I don't know how you guys are able to manage with all of your games?

If you want I can list all the games I have installed right now and you will see why 500 GB is far too little.

Some people don't play games.

Some games are relatively small.

Some people buy a game on Steam, play it, delete it when they're done playing, and then download/install it again when they want to play it again.
