How many USB ports have you managed to kill?

This is kind of random, but I've realized that I have so many USB ports that have died over the years. I'm at 7 on my current computer. I have terrible luck. I'm wondering where everyone else is at.

i've killed 0/6 total on my current comp. this is the only one i've had with USB, though.

haven't killed any at school or at work either.

One, when I inadvertently sat on a cord. I've never lost a USB port otherwise. What in the world are you doing with your USB ports?

I don't think I've killed any either, but often the connectors don't make good contact. Caig Labs Deoxit Gold (formerly Pro Gold) is good to have on hand for that type of problem.

Based on the responses, I assume the OP has the worst luck in the universe when it comes to USB ports .

I have had a new motherboard that had defective USB ports on it. What was fixed by replacing the motherboard. I have also had a defective USB thumb drive but no ports that have gone bad on me. If I remember right, I think that the USB ports have a 500mA protection in the circuit to prevent overloading the USB port. This may not be true of all manufactures but some have overload protection built in them. Look for a USB hub that has overload protection and that may help save your ports. You may have some bad USB device that is taking your ports out.

5/6 on my previous computer, which fried all my stuff, MB, KB, Ipod, and eventually took out every other part in my computer other than the video card and RAM.

I damaged one of the ports on my vaio laptop (broke the ceramic) but I never 'killed a USB port'. The port works fine, just that its a bit looser than it should be.

None... though I was pretty lucky. A while back I was installing some USB ports on the front of my PC and when I plugged the cable from the motherboard into the front panel I managed to get the plug offset by set of pins. Well, when I later went to plug my digital camera into on of the USB ports sparks flew out between the port and the USB cable. Somehow my USB panel, motherboard, and camera all survived unscathed.

2 on my laptop (not really dead more like badly damaged, kind works) and i dont think i have ever killed a usb port on any desktop computer.

Damn... i will be a LOT more careful when putting those front panel connectors in...

Ive killed 0 USB ports, current comp has 10.
