How many Valedictorians did/does your graduating class have?

The local High School here has 4. Last year they had 3. Is that normal?

My school always did 1.... top G.P.A. would take it.

My HS had 1 valedictorian (highest GPA) and 1 salutatorian (2nd highest GPA). I think this typical of most high schools. That's weird that there were 4 this year around you.....is it a really big graduating class? Or do they all have the same GPA?

no... small class. Maybe 120 students. I don't know what GPAs they have, but I highly doubt they're all the same.

Bah! My HS graduating class had 26 valedictorians, and 1 salutorian. If I wasn't such an underachiever I could have been #27.

my senior class is about 400 students.

We have a whole bunch of 4.0 GPA, and they are all considered valedictorian I believe.

We just had one valedictorian (me, heh heh) and one salutatorian. Selection was based on more than just GPA.

Mine had 2. That was 20 years ago, going to my 20 year reunion next weekend!

1 valedictorian, 2 salutorians. Must have hella high GPA's. My GPA is like 4.45 i think i get high honors for that. We have honors, high honors, and very high honors.

Valedictorian is going to CalTech
Salutorians: 1 going to Stanford, the other going to UC Berkely EECS

My hs had 20 of them. All had 4.0. All gave speeches at graduation. Although each speech was about 1 minute.

wow, really? that's quite uncoventional. what do you submit to college's for application if you have no transcript?

our cac's [college academic counslers] send out a letter with each transcript explaining the reasons behind this, besides which, most colleges have heard of the school anyways.

Well, since I have nothing better to do, I shall put in a better explaination.
I goto a mathmatics and science academy, which takes 200 students out of a pool of applicants. These students generally represent the top 1% or so in the state. Class rank, gpa, and validvictorian would cause an extreame amount of stress for these students. Can you imagine going from the #1 in your class to say, #50 or #100? Bam, you'd be dead. But we live three years on campus [much like college style] and from almost all reports, college is a breeze compaired to this place. I've made some great friends, many coming with me to college. Graduations soo close, we're all in tears [some figurativly, some not]. I still havent fully come to realize that i'm leaving the place I've called home for the last three years. Living together with the same 200 people in my class [600 in the school] I haven't fully comprehended the inability i will have to see any of them at any given point in the day... sigh...

Umm... i guess you could say we get accepted into some good colleges. We've got students goign all over the globe: MIT, Yale, Stanford, Berkley, you name any big college we've got a student/alum that went there. And many small colleges too. So .. umm.. yea..

Its called the Illinois Mathmatics and Science Academy, or IMSA for short. Theres a few institutions around the US like this but I believe that we are the only residential school

sounds alot like my high-school in that it is one of the very best private HS's, the bad part however, is that they did grade and rank us and so alot of people I know got screwed in the class ranking and so didn't qualify for certain scholarships. on the other hand if they went to the local public HS they would've easily been at the very top of the percentages and probably gotten full rides for college. they were none to pleased.

We had one of each (Val and Sal) based entirely on GPA. The Val was the only person in the class to have an unweighted 4.0, so he got it. The Sal upset a few people, as she transferred in during senior year, and &quot;stole&quot; the honor from another person that many felt should have received it. We also had a star student designation set aside for the person with the highest SAT score; that ended up going to the Val anyways, heh.

My school has 4 because there are 4 people with a 4.00!

my school honored anyone that had a 4.00 all four years but we also had the true valedictorian and salutatorian honored also.

unfortunately someone's mom got pissed off that their gpa's were mentioned at senior awards night so they weren't even recognized in the graduation program or at graduation. :|

SORRRRRRYYYYY your kid didn't work as hard as the valedictorian or salutatorian (both of them friends of mine) val had a 4.6, salutatorian had a 4.5.

If a school has 4 valedictorians, it sounds like the school board got paid off by a few parents to make sure Little Johnny or Jane got some juicy resume fodder.

There should only be one valedictorian. If there are multiple people with a 4.0 GPA, the school should consider days sick or the caliber of each student's cirriculum to pick #1.
