How many "What should I buy" threads do we need?

I don't even bother looking anymore. Everyone asks about the same parts the guy in the other thread asked about. He can just check there and copy what people said.

Not only that but there are many different types of people looking to build, each with unique needs and wants. To suggest they all build the same exact system is ludicrous.

There are a lot of forum members here that browse a great number of websites and research an awful lot (not to mention the increasing number of bargain hunters finding all the latest hot deals). Their knowledge, if they wish to share it, is very much appreciated by the rest of us.

And, if anyone *truly* wants to be a forum nazi, note that this really should go in OT, should it not?

when peeps are shelling out $$$ for a rig, they get concerned sometimes.

i gave up reading them recently, so i know what you're saying. but it is a tech forum that grow in members by the day.

And, unless you use the "right" words, searching is not all that great. It's like looking in Help in the Index. Uless someone indexed the thing you are looking for, you can't find it readily.

I just checked my mobo manual for an example - it has two SATA RAID ports and an IDE (PATA) RAID connector as well. Neither RAID nor SATA are in the index.

And really, when you come right down to it, there are no bad or wrong questions - and patronizing arrogance in responding is not useful to anyone.

This is a forum, and the heart and soul of it is interchange.

Anyway - since this thread does not involve hardware of any kind, it really belongs in the Forum Issues forum.

Every month or so some person comes here and makes a thread whining about the number of "build me a computer" threads.

If you don't like it, then don't come in here.

A lot of people enjoy helping people pick out stuff.

Without threads like these, GH would be just another Technical Support area and nobody would come in here.

There used to be some general threads, but they became outdated quite quickly and there was a decent amount of conflict over the specific recommendations. Having an "official thread" or something doesn't make much sense to me when prices and products change so rapidly.

EDIT: and the "this is getting old" thing doesn't make sense to me. GH has been like this for years. It has been like this as long as I can remember. It's not getting old, it's staying the same it's always been.
