How much are you willing to pay for a cell phone?

There are so many phones coming out now that are ridiculously stylish but cost so much. I want the S500i but it costs $300; that's almost a PS3. I guess my max budget for a phone would be $200, anymore and I'll just feel like I'm wasting money.

So, what's your limit?

$288. Bought the Mogul / PPC 6800 from Sprint Monday. Though it has yet to ship. I upped my target from $200. Happy birthday to me a couple weeks late (since the Ocean didn't work out for me).

Around $200 for my current phone, maybe higher. Samsung A900. After $150 trade-in too. I got some accessories to go with it though.

My next phone, probably no more than $150. That, or I'll switch over to my works cell phone plan, since I will be on-call here pretty soon. That option is free.

Maybe in a year or so, an iPhone. I don't want to think about it, tempting.

I paid only 50 buck for T-Mobile Sidekick 3 with trade in. Sidekick 3 cost 299.00 I think.

Not more than $100 for a regular phone. If it does more than phone features, like Q or an iPhone, no cap I guess. Depends on how useful it is

I'd pay between 200-250. There's a few phones out and coming out that I'm willing to pay around $300 for: the New Chocolate VX8550, RAZR2 V9M, RIZR Z6TV.

I have no use for the camera, I never text, and I have an iPod for my music. Free phones FTW!

Free phones are junk. Why do you think the carriers give them away?

I used to use one of the free Nokias when I was in high school, and even though it had a small screen and no camera, it got the job done for me. I have a RAZR now and wouldn't ever want to go back to the free phones, but to some people a phone is just something to make calls with.

How many years ago was that, though? Phones back then > phones now days. Honestly, most of the truly low-cost to free phones (not counting ones you get with renewal discounts for free) aren't near as reliable or well built as the more expensive phones.

I have no problem with people who want a low-cost phone just to make calls with. But, the people who want a free phone for the sake of a free phone are the ones that I want to smash in the mouth with a brick.

A) The RAZR is a free phone now at most places

B) Just because I choose to spend $200 (or whatever) on service time (5 months for me) or other things that interest me is no reason to hit me in the face with a brick. I can tell that phones are really important to you, and that's ok, but not all of us care.

Again, I don't have a problem with people who want a low-cost phone just to make/receive calls, that's fine.

I want to hit people with a brick who are just plain cheap. People who get a free phone and then DEMAND a new one for free because THEY broke it. Or people who got a free phone, the cheapest plan available and use 3 times their monthly minutes and expect to be given 1500 minutes for free. That's why I hate cheap/free phones, and I hate subsidizing. It bring people in as customers who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford, or would be too cheap to purchase, a cell phone, and then I have to deal with them.

That makes a lot more sense. Sorry if I came off as a dick.

A) The RAZR was a free phone 2 years ago. Of course people will keep paying for those.

B) IF you're spending $200, you better be getting a badass phone. I got a W810i over 1 year ago for that much. And that was for Cingular. If I got the phone for T-Mobile, I would've paid under $50. People can still whip out their iPhones but I have plenty of MP3s on my phone plus quadband plus 2MP camera.

Asian stores FTW!

200-300$ usually -- and this is for 2 years. I dont think I could spend that much or more every year (some people change out their phones very often).

About $50 after rebates for a camera phone, or about $300 for a PDA/SmartPhone that I could use to practically replace my iPod.

I have no real limit. Just about every phone I have purchased I have made money on after using it and ebaying it. That is, except for two exceptions. My Treo 650 I bought for $550 the first day it was released. I sold that one for a loss after about a year of use. I just bought the 8GB iPhone for $600 and I doubt I will get anywhere close to that when I sell it.
