How much better is The Lord of TRTT EE than not EE?

It's an extra 43 minutes or so running time on top of 179 minutes for the regular 2 disk DVD set. Is it worth it to get the EE version? I placed an order at Columbia House and got the regular 2 DVD set with my enrollment disks and I figure the average cost of all 8 disks which is the minimum (that's what I'll get!) with the membership is around $8 or so. After ordering I found out about the Extended Edition and thought I'd return the regular edition and get something else and get the EE somewhere else (CH doesn't have it). I found it at Overstock.com for $25 + $1.40 shipping. Is it worth paying 3x as much to get the EE?

I thought the first movie, Fellowship of the Ring was really awesome - saw it once. Got the DVD version from Columbia House, again as an enrollment title. Is there some kind of extended version for IT too?

TIA!

yes, there are extended versions for both...
and yes - they are AWESOME... the extra footage is gold... I can't/won't ruin it for you - but many scenes are extended/added to, etc. etc.

The additional footage is TOTALLY interspersed with the movie.. You have to pay lots of attention to notice some - while others are entirely new scenes you should definitely notice..

If you are a big LOTR fan, then you really should get the extended edition.

OK. Can somebody please provide a link to the extended version of Fellowship of the Ring? I swear, I'd never heard of it. Yes, I'm a big fan. I read all three books and The Hobbit, too. I thought the FOTR was just the greatest adventure movie ever! That's what I thought when I watched it. I'm going to have to get the extended versions of all three. Thanks!

My lord, you MUST have the Extended editions of both if you're any kind of fan whatsoever. It fills in all the gaps left by the theatrical versions. INCREDIBLE!!!

OMG, it's a HUGE difference. I loved TTT, i would give it a 90/100... but the EE is just awesome. Some of my favorite scenes from teh book, like the Treants and how they spoke about their females, was missing from the movie, until i saw they were on the EE! Awesome, i woudl give the EE version 98/100.

Hey guys, is this The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers Extended Edition??????? It says:

LORD OF THE RINGS-TWO TOWERS (PSSE

This is at Deepdiscount.com. What the heck does that mean?

Thanks!!!

Edit: I gotta think this is not the same as the Extended Version, THE Extended Version. It's extended, yeah, but it's 208 minutes, whereas there's a version with 223 minutes, so it's not the same. Weird. Anyone know what's up with this?

Yeah, that's it. There's also a 5 disc set that comes with a Gollum statue which is like $60 or so. But that's the EE, yes.

But the PSSE version (whatever that is) only has 29 extra minutes of material in the movie itself. The Extended Version (you can get it at Amazon.com) has 43 extra minutes. It's evidently not the same.

The extra scenes are certainly worth it, but the real reason I like the EE versions is the DTS Sound. I rented the regular version, then bought the EE version and my Home theater system likes the EE version much better. Everything sounded so much better. I felt more immersed in the movie with DTS. As you can guess I bought both EE on LOTR and TT.

Definitely worth it!

Well, that does look a LOT like the EE of TT.
My box looks like that.
If it is the New Line Platinum series - then it has the 43 minutes.. maybe they just made a typo on the site?

A typo?? I wonder. It says PSSE, and that evidently stands for Platinum Series Special (Extended) Edition, what the heck else????? Maybe a typo. Drat. Why is the world so incompetent?

Thanks, I'm going for it. FOTR EE, too. I'm toying with the idea of getting Alien Quadrilogy too, while I'm at it at the 20% discount! Are the 3rd and 4th as good as Alien and Aliens? They rocked.

Edit: I guess this says it all: "The third and fourth installments in the "Alien" series--"Alien 3" and "Alien Resurrection"--are every bit as bad as the first two movies are good." That from this review. That leaves me wondering if DD has a package with Alien and Aliens only. That would be cool!

Edit 2: Couldn't find an Alien+Aliens set, so passed on that stuff. Got the first two LOTR in EE. Thanks for the tips and the heads up on the DDDVD coupon.

i still havent seen TTT:EE
i was disappointed in the non extended (perhaps that isnt the right word...they just left too much out for the battle and action to be put in its place)

ill get it soon...i think, ive been busy lately and havent felt like a 4hr movie in the last few weeks.
