Yea I know. Not for most though.

Well, that's their problem really. It's like the Walmart workers striking. Go somewhere else. Heck, some department stores around here pay $14/hour to be a cashier and put shirts on hangers.

I came out out with a BA(econ) and $10,000 in debt. It got me a job and the ability to repay the debt in about 2 years.

My last final is on Monday, so I haven't technically finished, but I will finish with $0 in debt. Yay full-time career and full-time school schedule. I'm probably in some kind of sleep debt.

I guess my post isn't really informative. I am getting a BS in mathematics. I was looking at getting a PhD, and not only is tuition waived, but PhD math students are paid a stipend to attend. Unfortunately I can't sell my house to go, so I'm looking at an MS in Computer Science. I paid for part of my education and my employer paid for the rest.

$0. In fact I probably came out with more money than when I went in. I stayed at home for college to save money and when I was off during the summer I'd work, and since I was a college student I could get a job that was a bit higher than minimum wage and I had a few extra months to work since college finishes before high school. I now work for the same company.

Stayed at home for about a year after I finished college so I can save up for a house. I could not wait to leave and be on my own but I did not want to rush it, I wanted to wait till I find a good place at a good price. My patience was well rewarded. I was and am in good terms with my parents though so that helped, but I still badly wanted my own independence as most people would at that age.

$20k. I saved enough money to pay the loan in full 4 months after graduation. I chose not to pay everything at once so I can have some emergency funds.

I never understood this way of thinking, it makes no sense. You are better off paying off debt, and if by chance an emergency does happen before you have a chance to rebuild an emergency fund, THEN go back in debt by taking money from the credit line, loan, etc. Why choose to STAY in debt, "just in case"?

I guess if I lose my job, I'd have to use my credit card which has 20%+ APR. Much worse than the 3-6% I have to pay now.

About $14,000. I went to a community college for two years after high school, but that was paid for from high school scholarship money.

Went for three years to Michigan Tech University (got a B.S. in Computer Science) and graduated with about $14,000 in debt IIRC. They are Federal Direct (Un)Subsidized Stafford loans.

I'm looking at graduating with $140-150k in debt (5 years undergrad, 4 years pharmacy school)

:\

Gonna keep going after that? If i were you i would.

Get some paid lab work in and it'll help a lot. Pay isn't awesome but it will pay for a lot of sheit you're missing when living on loans.

I'll let you know. Right now GMU costs me 5 grand a semester plus books, plus parking, plus gasoline.
My GI bill will only cover a tiny fraction of all that.

maybe in canada, here 140$k buys you a 2000 sq footer on 5-10 acres

Then again, those have no proper insulation and will blow away completely in a storm, the codes for electricity and piping are subpar to any developed nation too.

It's like the ones we build for summer vacations that are not meant to be used more than a week.

The difference on building code is MASSIVE, fucking plastic pipes for water? Yeah... NO!

Here? America?
Where?
Cuz in my neck of the woods 140 thousand gets you a run down shack with liens and safety hits.
500 thousand gets a townhouse with no land.

The house I grew up in cost 80 thousand and had 4 bedrooms, big front lawn, huge back lawn, two car garage, and several tall trees.
That was 1986.

Keep going to what?

If you're studing pharmacology you could keep studying in the field of biochemistry to become one of the few.

My son has finished his eight years (one less in Britain, we're one year smarter than you from birth) and will continue his study in the field of biochemistry once he's done with his service.

The employment rate is 100% and most are overpaid from any workplace in comparison to other venues.

Pharmacy school trains you to be a pharmacist, not a pharmacologist.

Ironically I got my bachelors in biochemistry, and you'll be lucky to find a decent paying job with a basic sciences degree like that here in the states.

10k after community college, landed me a job..paid for itself.

probably about 30k after bachelors is done, can't be sure if that will get me any returns right away, because I already have a pretty high paying job....which also is paying for the last 2 semesters!
