how much diff in speed will DDR make?

here the specs:
Duron 1300
either integrated video or a $45 8mb video card

will the difference in speed between 256mb PC2100 DDR and 256mb PC133?
the price with the PC133 is about $100 less ($700-$800) but i have to ask if that comprimises a lot of speed keeping in mind that it is only a Duron

With a Duron the difference probably won't be that great so with the extra money you could either get a Palomino or more memory.

are those US $? $100 for ddr over PC133 is ridiculus. Also you can get a 32 mb GTS-V video card for $45

i forgot to say, this is for Linux, no gaming performance needed, just server abilitaw!
KT266A is chipset for DDR, otherwise it would be KT133A SD

What kind of server (web, filesharing, DB, etc?) and what kind of load/traffic? We're still running some of our servers on 300MHz PII machines. No problems for what they do.

You shouldn't even consider SDR boards as an option, there IS NO PRICE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DDR AND SDR ANYMORE! A stick of 256MB PC2100 DDR ram runs $66, an SDR stick is $65, unless you consider saving a whole buck major savings, stick with DDR ram and chipsets.

um there is a HUGE difference, the motherboard for the KT133A is only $120 and it comes with integrated video, the KT266A is $170 with no video so i would have to buy a $50 video card on top of that (cheapest video card i can find)

Biggest question, what will you be doing with the box? Also, we need to know where ya live, and if you will buy online or not. Do you have any mobo preferences? etc

I don't know what game server you run and what it's requirements are.

But I do have a couple of old Linux boxes running HTTP, sendmail, FTP, Squid, bzflag server, samba, dns, etc

They are both Pentium's with between 96-160mb ram. I don't use KDE at all on these.

I'd think that you'd have no problems with SDR, but if you can look more and get into a DDR platform, it wouldn't hurt.

I've heard that the ECS mobo's with both SDR and DDR run Linux fine (they run about US$60). Maybe look into that with DDR.
