How much do local news casts make in major cities?

Just wondering... not in hicks, but major cities like LA, NY, Chicago, etc.

Also talking about news desk hosts, not on-field reporters.

I'm sure they make six figures, but not as high as 500k~? Maybe a 'mere' 150-200k?

Or I'm way off and they make far less? (doubt it).

Sue Simmons, I believe, is the highest paid in NYC @ 2.5 million/year for hosting the evening news on NBC.

probably less in other markets, I think the NYC metro area is the biggest in the US.

I'd hack off a zero just because the evening news is more watched than the morning news (and most/all of the 6 pm anchors do double duty for the 11 pm news as well)

my guess would be mid-high 6 figures.

A pretty crappy schedule though. You're basically working second shift and go home by midnight or later.

think about the sound/lighting/makeup people working the exact same schedule or worse for a fraction of the pay, and I suddenly don't feel too much pity

I'd imagine that's a drawback to any live television gig... if you want the money, you follow the ratings, and the ratings are when most people are at home in front of their tv (eg: outside of the normal bounds of 9-5)

I had a friend who did this morning news type show down in Florida. It started at like 4am so she was getting up at 1am and going to bed at like four in the afternoon. She hated it and said the money she was making down there wasn't near enough to be on that type of schedule. Somewhere around 60k is what I think she was making.
