Answer the following questions, and when theres 5 or so answers, i`ll post the proper ones.
Point in this? Just curious.

1) Did the US qualify for the 2002 World Cup? and if so, how far did they get?
2) Who are the (Club) Champions Of Europe?
3) Name the current Champions of;
A) The English "Premier League"
B) The Spanish "La Liga"
C) The Italian "Seria A"
4) Who is Manchester Uniteds first choice keeper, and what nationality is he?
5) Name the most expensive midfielder in the world and the teams he moved from and too, with price(in pounds sterling).
6) Name the most expensive defender in the world, and the teams he moved from and too, with the price(in pounds sterling).
7) Who does "David Beckham" play football for?
8) Who are the current World Cup holders?

I dislike soccer. I didn't know it was called proper footy though, that sounds like a pretty cool slang term for a sport. I don't like sports where you can only use half of your limbs Actually, I was just never too good at it because I was afraid I'd get kicked in the face or something. Then I did once at school and it just soured me on soccer for as long as I can remember.

I always laugh when I ask a North American why they don't like football (soccer) and they answer that it's too slow. Really? How long is the average baseball game? Nine hours? What about American football? Stop. Start. Stop. Start. Stop. Start...

Right.

It just isn't fast paced enough for America, the land of instant credit and 22 minute plotlines.

Thats only because people are fat and lazy, soccer is one of the hardest games physically. Not too slow when you play it. We used to laugh because some of the footbal players would come to soccer for "off season". They would end up being in the worst shape, also they would end up with worse injuries than from football. Also I have a deep respect for rugby. I would like to see a pro footbal team g play a pro rugby team and vice versa.

Come on guys. Answer the questions.
The term "proper footy" is called so cos the whole world but the US calls Football, Football, the US calls Football Soccer, cos they have a knock off of Rugby under the name of Football...
Im getting the impression that my suspicions were correct, that the vast majoroty of US citizens dont have a single clue about Football, and have no idea how their country does in it.

No clue about any of questions, don't really care either. I've tried to watch soccer, really I have. I was in New Zealand in 98 during the world cup on a bus trip with a bunch of English people. Even sitting in a bar with them, I still couldn't get into soccer. For ball sports, my favorite by far is Basketball.

Then why post?
I was watching a program the other night, where they were debating why the US doesnt like world sports, and only like sports of their own. Some quite interesting quotes, not to mention controversial......

US soccer sucks for the most part and can you really expect people to be behind a team in France or England or Spain if they have no personal connection with that city or country? I think that if the US had a professional league that rivaled the English, Spanish, Italian or Dutch leagues quite a few people would be interested.

The US doesnt have a decent league cos no-ones interested in it, which means no income, which means no facilities being provided, which means no "stars" being brought through academys, and no decent players/teams to watch means no interest, its a never ending loop!.
In the summer, European teams tour the US, you have some of the best players in the world playing on your soil, yet you all appear to show little interest. Last summer alone, Manchester United toured the US, playing Juventus, Barcelona as well as local clubs. The Italian supercup was help in the US as well. Real Madrid paid a visit as well.
The US however, does provide some very good goal keepers...

I think you're missing my point. No Americans are going to rally behind Manchester United or Juventus or Barcelona any more than an Englishman, an Italian or a Spaniard are going to rally behind the Memphis Grizzlies, the Chicago Blackhawks or the Montreal Expos.

MacBaine, the point was to show how little America cares for world sports, and only for their own. Not my knowledge of baseball.

MaxDepth, a supporter from Highbury Library i see? I dont actually support MUFC, so dont bother trying to take the mick.
Arsenal have a good team, its just a shame that they`re made up of animals!. Your getting worse than the Leeds of old!. lol.

I thought the point of the thread was to find out how much American's know about soccer, or care about world sports? Well from my post, you can tell, a lot of us don't know much. Apparently I was wrong.

Im/were not expecting you to rally behind them, but you just said that people would be interested if you had decent teams/players to watch, yet almost every summer European teams tour the US, and you have some of the best players in the world playing there. So you can`t use the excuse that theres no decent teams to watch can you?
