Arsenal have a good team, its just a shame that they`re made up of animals!. Your getting worse than the Leeds of old!. lol.

American sports are world sports, too. Baseball is very popular world-wide. The world goes beyond Europe.

We'd care if there were any other world teams good enough to beat us in football

Im/were not expecting you to rally behind them, but you just said that people would be interested if you had decent teams/players to watch, yet almost every summer European teams tour the US, and you have some of the best players in the world playing there. So you can`t use the excuse that theres no decent teams to watch can you?

Decent AMERICAN teams.
Twisting the argument?
Lets not argue here.

The bottom line is $$$. No US television station wants to air a sport where they have to be able to go 45+ minutes without ever being able to stop for a commercial. Not when they've got games like football, basketball, hockey, baseball, golf where there you can squeeze in a commercial or two every couple of minutes.

Money talks. The day soccer becomes popular in the US, it will still be a drastically different game than "proper" football.

Just cos Baseball has the world series doesnt make it popular worldwide. I`ve been around europe, asia and austrailia, and i`ve never seen anyone, anywhere mention or even play baseball.

Then why post?
I was watching a program the other night, where they were debating why the US doesnt like world sports, and only like sports of their own. Some quite interesting quotes, not to mention controversial......

US soccer sucks for the most part and can you really expect people to be behind a team in France or England or Spain if they have no personal connection with that city or country? I think that if the US had a professional league that rivaled the English, Spanish, Italian or Dutch leagues quite a few people would be interested.
The US doesnt have a decent league cos no-ones interested in it, which means no income, which means no facilities being provided, which means no "stars" being brought through academys, and no decent players/teams to watch means no interest, its a never ending loop!.
In the summer, European teams tour the US, you have some of the best players in the world playing on your soil, yet you all appear to show little interest. Last summer alone, Manchester United toured the US, playing Juventus, Barcelona as well as local clubs. The Italian supercup was help in the US as well. Real Madrid paid a visit as well.
The US however, does provide some very good goal keepers...

I think you're missing my point. No Americans are going to rally behind Manchester United or Juventus or Barcelona any more than an Englishman, an Italian or a Spaniard are going to rally behind the Memphis Grizzlies, the Chicago Blackhawks or the Montreal Expos.

You'd be suprised at how popular Man U is here, amongst the teens. A lot of the soccer (football) players here actually follow what goes on across the atlantic.

Why are you shocked that we don't care? We have our own sports that we prefer... baseball, football, etc., that your countries don't have. It's called a cultural difference. Why don't your countries start embracing American sports instead?

It's very popular in South America & Japan. Or because they're outside of Europe you don't consider them part of the world?

Getting judgemental are we?
South America might play play baseball a little, but like most of the world, its primary sport is Football.
Japan are in a simillar situation. They jointly held the 2002 world cup finals with Korea.

You think there aren't people in America that play soccer? Just because we don't embrace it as much as Europe?

So YOU embrace baseball, YOU play it quite regularly, it is played and officially recognized in a handful of European nations, yet it hasn't achieved the widespread support it has in America. Why not?

and Holland
No they dont.

I think we need to classify popular.
Just cos youve seen a player from a certain country, or been there and seen it played doesnt make it popular. Popular is whole country bothered about it. Popular is country in uproar if the national team isnt doing well.

So what if the primary sport in other countries is Soccer? Why does that mean that America is wrong for not caring?

It doesnt make America wrong, They have their rights to express theirselves how they wish, my point however is that America typically doesnt like a sport if either a) they didnt invent it, or B) They aint good at it.

Your conclusion is a logical falacy. You can't say that we don't like soccer because we didn't invent it and we aren't as good as you in it. Europeans grow up with soccer being a huge sport already. Of course you are going to like it more, be better at it, etc. Americans grow up playing baseball and American football, so we're going to have interest in those sports and be better at them.

American Soccer website. And they have a magazine. Wow, it must be popular in america if it has a website AND a magazine!

I'm getting pretty sick of your arrogance. You come here drilling Americans on their knowledge of soccer, mostly European soccer, and when we cannot answer you, you state that your assumption was correct, that Americans know little to nothing of soccer. You've presented a pretty clear 'Holier than Thou' attitude, and you can't seem to accept that we have our own sports that we care about, you have yours. Your knowledge of your country's soccer team is probably on level with my knowledge of my city's baseball team. When you presented the argument that baseball is an American only sport, and we pointed out that it exists in other parts of the world, including parts of Europe, you immedietely dismiss that, because they are not as popular as soccer.

Please take your attitude elsewhere, as it's pretty obvious you came in here looking for a fight.

Edit: And I fail to see what your link shows, at all. Soccer IS popular in America, just not the extent where the entire populace is actively enthralled by it. I explained in my post withthe link I provided that baseball is present in Italy, and is more popular than in other European nations.
