Ha ha ha ha.....who told you that?
Just cos Baseball has the world series doesnt make it popular worldwide. I`ve been around europe, asia and austrailia, and i`ve never seen anyone, anywhere mention or even play baseball.

It's very popular in South America & Japan. Or because they're outside of Europe you don't consider them part of the world?
Getting judgemental are we?
South America might play play baseball a little, but like most of the world, its primary sport is Football.
Japan are in a simillar situation. They jointly held the 2002 world cup finals with Korea.

Stop getting into specifics. You said Americans don't play world sports. They do. Baseball, golf, tennis, etc. are world sports. Just because their "primary" (whatever that is) sport is soccer doesn't mean anything. Just because Japan hosted the world cup doesn't mean anything.

Also, soccer is popular in the US for kids. It's just not a popular sport professionally.

Soccer is very popular in America, but mainly as an organized sport for kids (ever heard the term Soccer Mom?), and it is very popular for high school athletics. It's not, however, a popular spectator sport.

Next he's going to start crying about how US fans aren't trampled to death in stadiums while their teams are playing, hooligans killing each other over their teams, etc. on a regular basis.

South America and Japan just don't play "a little" baseball. It's huge there.

I guess you don't consider them genuine human beings so you don't count them.

It's not exactly ingrained in our culture much like basketball or baseball. In Asia, for example, the only nation to really embrace football as a national sport is Korea, while all the other nations (much like the United States) has a team to participate in the World Cup, but has other sports that is inifinitely more mainstream. China garners the most attention from the CBA, Japan, Taiwan, and Phillipines from baseball, etc.

Case in point, Europe is hardly representative of the rest of the world.

Hm, when you look at what they have as their main sports, you can sorta tell why it isn't popular there.

Baseball: aka rounders (a sport women used to play), but all they seem to do is either stand around in the dug-out or wave a stick three times per match then.... back to the dug-out

Basketball: this is good imo. But with timeouts and no physical contact allowed makes it a little soft to play though.

American Football: this one makes me laugh when comparing it to rugby. The amount of padding and headgear used is mad, are you guys scared of getting bruised or what. Oh, and the amount of commericals and advertisements on a game of American Football makes it unwatchable, not that it was watchable before mind.

Edit: I think Jzero has a point too.

Are you an idiot? Baseball is extremely popular in the US, Japan, and is a way of life in Latin countries.

They have baseball teams in US, Canada, Japan (very popular), Venezuela, South Korea, Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, etc.

There's the MLB (US/Canada), Japan's baseball league, Venezuela, Mexican League, etc. There's even a type of championship or round robin type tournament for some Latin countries.

It's even played in some European countries, but obviously not nearly as big as the above mentioned ones. And last I looked, baseball was an Olympic sport with plenty of countries playing in it.

Im/were not expecting you to rally behind them, but you just said that people would be interested if you had decent teams/players to watch, yet almost every summer European teams tour the US, and you have some of the best players in the world playing there. So you can`t use the excuse that theres no decent teams to watch can you?

Decent AMERICAN teams.
Twisting the argument?
Lets not argue here.

What? I am merely clarifying what I said before and you apparently didn't get...

Why should I care? It is just a game. Do you know who is the world Jenga champion? No. How many blocks of wood are in the game? Don't know. Just as I suspected, Europeans don't know anything about Jenga. They must be idiots.

I probably could school you, BoomAM on the field. I know soccer inside and out after playing it for 16 years, but that doesn't mean I HAVE to pay attention to some team, on another Continent, which I rarely see on television anyway. I never took interest in knowing stats, and who is where in any professional sport. I enjoy a good match on television or in person, but thats about it. I enjoy the game, not the "who is who" part. You can kiss my soccer playing american ass you arrogant fvck.

Edit: I think Jzero has a point too.

Baseball: So what if it was played by women? This is more of a game of skill then physical ability. But still a sport none-the-less.

Basketball: Have you ever played an aggressive game of basketball? There is a hell of a lot of contact in basketball, just you aren't allowed to wack somebody. Actually play defense with a guy backing you in and trying to post up on you and see if it's soft.

American Football: On the professional level, it doesn't matter how much padding and headgear is used. These are 200-300lb monsters of athletes who run a 4.1-5s flat 40. That much momentum on a tackle, especially from the monsters at linebacker would most likely kill a person without the headgear and padding. Do you watch the NFL and have you seen some of the hits they make? I'm not saying football is a tougher sport then rugby, cause it isn't, but a rugby athlete and a professional football athlete are two totally different builds and types of athletes. Also theres a reason why most rugby players don't finish a season fully intact. If we're gonna pay our athletes a few million a year, they sure as hell better finish it all the way through.

And did you ever think that maybe your country doesn't have as much interest in American sports as Americans do because you guys get your arses kicked by us?

I agree MercenaryForHire, but AFAIC, that goes for all sports. Yesterday is the first football I've watched in... years! Didn't even know who was playing till I tuned in!

I don't like soccer. It's not fast paced enough. I prefer hockey any day...well...unless it's the New Jersey Devils playing. Then it's just as dull.

Football is money! The amounts clubs pay for players is ludicrus!
Television drives a sport's popularity in the US. Players can't get paid unless there is money to pay them. That money comes from advertising and ticket sales but the big bucks are the advertising. But no one wants to advertise on something like soccer when they can get a lot more advertising in when they stop play every 30 second.

We have professional soccer in the US but no one is watching it on television, because it is not there to watch because no one will pay for it.

The women's pro league folded last year and few people are flocking to the men's pro games.

Simply put, soccer does not fit in with the business model of American TV and without TV you are nothing but a niche market. Pro athletes in the US did not make much money until television was mature enough to show sports.

I like soccer/football (never heard footy before), but I don't pay enough attention to it to answer any of the questions. I feel the same way about hockey, even though a couple of years ago I couldn't pass a hockey game without watching it.

This thread is pointless. OP is determined to prove personal superiority and no amount of reason will change his opinion.
