By "Americans", i mean no offence. So dont take any.
Answer the following questions, and when theres 5 or so answers, i`ll post the proper ones.
Point in this? Just curious.

1) Did the US qualify for the 2002 World Cup? and if so, how far did they get?
.......
10) Who scored the Winner in the Champions League 2003 Final?

Answer away!

I'm British and wouldn't be able to answer any of those questions

If you asked the average US football fan similar types of questions about US football, most wouldn't be able to answer those either. Hell, ask them to name all of the teams in the recent NFL playoffs and I'd bet that 90% probably wouldn't be able to name all of the teams correctly off the top of their head.

You're wrong about the US and world sports. Soccer (football to you) is one sport that America just hasn't got behind for whatever reason. Tennis, on the other hand, is a very popular world sport that most Americans have some interest in, and many follow very closely. Golf is another.

Soccer is a boring spectator sport. In golf you have hole in ones and a hole by hole competition. In tennis you have points, sets, and matches. Soccer, otoh, has 45 minute halves in which it is not unusual to see no "points" scored. Americans don't go for the subtleties of play offered by soccer. Doesn't mean Americans cannot understand soccer as a sport, but by and large they appreciate the constant rewards offered by other sports.

Yeah right.
From a political stand point, Europe is equal if not more influential than the US.
The world doesnt iminate from the US, From a historical standpoint, the US would`nt be around if it was`nt for the brits!.
America only has influence regarding various medias, cos it forces its movies/culture down our throats. In france/uk/italy/germany, there are some truely great films, but cos most of the film industry is american, they dont get a chance, or the credit they deserve.

And on a side note, why is the Baseball World Series called the world series? It only involves american teams. And dont even try saying that non americans are in the teams, cos "world series" would lead one to to the conclusion that the competition had teams from all over the world in it?

Chirics a dick. A pompus french bloke who has no idea about the modern world.
I take a similar stance to americas regarding france, ie; No respect for them.
France as a country is fine, its got some great places to visit, amazing countryside and impressive mountain views. Its just the french people that spoil it !

Because we can call it whatever we want? Maybe because the best players in the world play in the MLB.

There's two Canadian MLB teams (Toronto and Montreal).

The world doesnt iminate from the US, From a historical standpoint, the US would`nt be around if it was`nt for the brits!.

That's right, if you brits didn't piss us off enough, we would have never left looking for someplace else to live and we wouldn't have kicked your ass so bad. Thanks.

America only has influence regarding various medias, cos it forces its movies/culture down our throats.

Down your throats? Funny, I always thought it was about supply and demand. You europeans demand it, and we're here to supply it. You personally might not like it, but take a look around... the majority do. Live with it.

Getting back to the topic, I actually like playing soccer(football) because it's challenging physically. But I dislike the actual sport only because you can actually end up in a tie. (btw, I don't like hockey for that reason) I always thought the objective for any sport/game was to win.

So you have your opinion and we have ours. You like soccer, I like basketball, and everybody else likes what they like, can you just leave it at that?

Nah, that one's in the English bar ... sorry, "Pub" ... where we all sit and drink beer ... sorry, "Draft" ... sorry, "Draught" ... and watch the soccer ... sorry, Football ... sorry, "Proper Footy" game on the TV ... sorry, Television ... sorry, "Telly".

Oh, and if one more of you misinformed Redneck/Eurotrash asstycoons befouls Porsche with your pisspoor spelling, I'm going to tear your miserable heads off, crap down your necks, then pop your eyeball and vigorously copulate with the socket. :|

Here's my contribution :

I am an American.
I hate soccer because it's boring.
I hate (usually) baseball because it's boring.
I watch football because people get hurt and I like violence.
I watch hockey because people kick the crap out of the puck and each other and I like violence.
I eat red meat (but not from European cows because they have Mad Cow Disease, DON'T TELL ME THEY DON'T BECAUSE I KNOW THEY DO!) every day.
I pay less for my gas than Europeans AND get less mpg so I can pollute the Earth more quickly.
I laugh at people who try to say their country is better than mine because it's obviously not.
I laugh at people who say their country is more influential than ours because it's not.
I laugh at people who try to do something and fail.
Therefore, I am laughing at you, BoomAM

Done and done.

p.s. I am visiting England over spring break to visit my sister and I'll be sure to watch football (not soccer), demean your country's political system, deface your beautiful scenery, and make fun of the funny way you people talk.

I think we need to classify popular.
Just cos youve seen a player from a certain country, or been there and seen it played doesnt make it popular. Popular is whole country bothered about it. Popular is country in uproar if the national team isnt doing well.

The UK seems enamored with cricket...

I regularly tune into the BBC world service radio, and they'll spend 5 minutes going over UK, Australian, and Indian cricket scores. Seems like a national fascination to me.

You should be a bit more tolerant... your view of cricket probably mirrors most Americans' views of soccer/football/footsie.

I guess he's gonna have lots of reading when he gets back. But honestly, the USA plays in MANY sports. Is it wrong that eventually one sport will be squeezed out of the mainstream? (mainly soccer or footy)?

Since there's many things to follow, we can't follow them all. I stick with American Football, Basketball and best of all.. HOCKEY! :-D

They dont.
That was an epidemic a few years ago in the UK only. It has since been resolved, and British meat is as good as ever.
and make fun of the funny way you people talk.
Thats another thing.
Why does all of america think that we all talk like the queen?
Go visit manchester, leeds, liverpool, birmingham or london. Then try and critisie how we talk.
And if you think that the cockny, scoser, brummy or manc accents are daft, then have you listened to how some inbred hicks talk in the US?
