How much do you charge to spec and build a computer?

Hi all, I'm just curious about what the going rate, if there is one, for specing the parts for a machine (based on a customer telling you what they would like to be able to do, and giving you a budget), and assembling it, installing OS, office, and related software.

Any info would be much appreciated.

For me it would depend on how detailed the build was (ie a budget non overclocked build is less then a heavily overclocked watercooled monster). Either charge by the hour, or take a guess how long it will take (increase by %30) figure out an hourly rate and charge based on your guess. Now if its for a friend or a relative the pricing would be different.

It would also depend on whether you were providing warranty/support for later and if you would charge for support visits/calls or they would be included up to a point.

Yeah, whatever you end up charging, I would make it very clear what you are or are not willing to do as far as service down the road.

I will do a basic build; assemble, install OS, burn-in, ect. for $100.
Anything else is by the hour.

i do things for free also unless it's for someone that i don't know at all. then it's just 50 bucks or so.
