Yesterday I had $5 in my checking. Today I got paid and have over $1k in there. Ask me again in on Thursday 5/14 it'll probably be around $5 again until my Friday 5/15 payday.

I can't think of any emergency I might encounter that couldn't be handled by a CC. I do keep enough money in my savings account to pay off the CC at the end of the month, but I can't think of any circumstances where I would need to actually come up with thousands in cash on the spot, and therefore keep only the minimum needed to pay bills in my checking account.

Of course with interest rates being as low as they are, it's not like you are missing out on much by keeping all your money in a checking account anyway.

about 2-3k in my "checking" account (it's actually a savings, but it's where all my transactions go, such as my pay check, debit card transactions, checks etc) and about 25k in my high interest savings account.

I keep a couple hundred in there usually, unless I am about to pay off my CC bill.

I try too keep it at $500-600. The rest goes into a savings account and/or brokerage account unless I underestimated monthly expenses, at which point i move enough back to cover the bills.

...what? "This economy" doesn't seem any more expensive to live in than whatever the economy was for the past few years...just jobs aren't a dime a dozen anymore.

I think he means that in this economy more people are losing their jobs, and they're not finding new jobs very quickly, so it's prudent to keep a larger emergency fund.

Read the fine print.

That's quite possibly one of the worst rewards checking program I've ever seen.

Doesnt look that bad... i thought most places had limits on how much money you can put in. I dont have that much to begin with since I'm a student

Most places have limits. Few have "reasonable" limits.
I consider a limit of $35k and above to be reasonable.

so which savings account provider are most of you guys using?

HSBC Online Savings for me.

Word. I'm not shooting for the HIGHEST, but HSBC is good enough for me. It's usually above ING so that's fine. Plus there's an HSBC branch nearby my home.

Wow what bank has 5% rewards checking?

ING Direct is down to 1.05% or something sad like that now.

ING Direct is now garbage. My local bank offers better rates on CDs then they do. So much for savings passed on to customers from not needing a B&M location.

I would need to have my butler call my accountant to check, but my butler is on vacation in Monte Carlo on one of my yachts and my accountant is in the Caribbean somewhere on another one of my other yachts. I don't know how I manage...

Don't have a traditional checking account. Instead have a money market account.
