It'd be nice if you include the location for cost of living and include any special perks.

I'm an IT consultant, NJ, 140-150k depending on OT. I get to work home 1-2x a week. Out by 5pm everyday. Let's see how long this job lasts.

I mean we're comfortable, but it's nothing special. Cost of living sucks here- prop tax alone is like 15K. We just live in one of those plain 2000 sf homes.

Teacher, 60K...
It's enough, enough that I'll probably have to put in 35-40 years.

Would you mind giving some details on your consulting? Like do you charge clients hourly, if so how much? And how much is your average monthly billing? Do you get commission?

I'm curious as another IT consultant trying to see if I warrant asking for a raise. I'm currently making $60k plus commission. The commission is nice if I bill over $20k per month, but that isn't really something I can control, and it sucks when I take time off or there are holidays. I billed $186k last year, and am on track for $200k this year.

If you lived in that god awful silicon valley, your salary may go up +100% if that. But your home price will go up 83649%.

My friend lives in a standard 2000sf home with 3bd in a completely ordinary suburb of San Jose.

That home is 1.8 million. Unreal.

Yea here in the DC are the Fed gives you about 20% more of your base salary for location pay. And still a lot of folks live way out yonder. Some in my building from WVA and one was from PA. 2+ hour commute must suck.

Yes traffic in the DMV area is fucking atrocious. My cousin lives in Frederick and drives to DC every day to commute. He leaves his house by 4:30am he said and he hits traffic still on the way in.

I drove to VA from MD the other day at 5pm on Saturday and there was fucking traffic on 495. There is always traffic on that god damn road no matter what time or day you are on it. I can't stand driving in this area.

I intentionally get jobs where my commute is against traffic. I drive from Rockville to the Jessup area and am against traffic both ways. I went in today around 6am and hit 29 north at 6:10 and there was already traffic on the other side of the road. I could not imagine having to deal with that shit every day.

I don't know if it's really been awhile, but ok...

I'm an engineer. I manage the fuel procurement and delivery for our coal, gas, and oil power plants. I'm doing OK making six-figures in a relatively low cost-of-living area.

I do OK. Not rich, not poor.
I am in an OK cost area.
I do runops support type work. These days it's mostly managing a team, but sometimes I still get my hands dirty. Mostly I play with Ab Initio and C code.

We live in a nice tiny town 25 miles from work by county road on an AFB outside of grand forks nd. I like my job feeding the air force and only wish they communicated better and ate something better than chicken strips and fries. We live in a culinary desert filled with McDonald's babies. Sad.
