I went pretty hardcore last month and nearly burnt out. I was making $4-5K per day, but the hit to my health wasn't worth it. I ate nearly half my meals from the gas station convenience store, because their $3 sandwiches are quick and easy to eat, and I could buy a bunch of them at a time. I didn't see my kids/spouse for weeks. I was so mentally drained that I was talking really slow with long pauses.

I make around 75k, I say around because it tends to vary year to year, I even hit 80k once. I work at a NOC so it's shift work with lot of oportunity for OT due to being short staffed (ex: when people are on vacation or sick). Basically I monitor the telecommunications network for a rather good chunk of Ontario and Quebec. I live in northern Ontario. There's really not much good paying jobs here so I lucked out with this job.

The biggest perk is the hours. It's not a 8-5 grind like most jobs, it's shift work including nights which means less getting up early, and also more days off. For example I'm off right now till like Thursday. I would hate having to go back to an 8-5 job. 2 day weekends are just too short.

Every now and then the way the schedule ends up I sometimes end up with like 7 days off in a row. Or when I take vacation time sometimes I'll have time off before and after so it's almost like having 2 weeks off. In summer it tends to be a busier schedule though, but lots of OT.

79k as a Project Mgr for a very large HMO in Los Angeles, CA. sometimes once a year they give out bonuses which range from 2-4k.

perks- 6 weeks pto, 730 am-4 pm work schedule, commute is about 20 minutes freeway (against traffic) and my health premiums are basically free. job is pretty easy and my boss is pretty easy going but at the moment I'm looking into other opportunities.

cost of living is insane though; good thing I'm married to a Pharmacist lol

Awesome . Do you like what you do?

It's not bad. It's third shift which I love, get to set my own hours too. Been with Panera for 11 years now so I get 4 weeks of paid vacation. Health benefits are fantastic too - $100 a month for individual coverage with anthem bluecross with a $1000 deductible with a $4500 max out of pocket. I also get a company car that I can use for personal use too.

I used to love 2nd shift but, these days it's mornings and evenings. 10 hour days get old.

Signal engineer, San Jose.
Official salary is 100k + 8.4k for medical, and paid overtime at $72/hr past 40 hours.
Then get tax free allowances for 3.5k housing and 500 vehicle each month, and 300/wk for food.

Have pretty much just put my entire post tax salary into investments this year.

I'm a IT project manager serving as a consultant to a pharma giant.

I manage projects $500k-$2M from conception to end. I maintain & update charter, prep meticulously for sr. leadership calls, and stay very close to my dev & QA team during design/dev/test/deployment/prod validation/issue tracking. Also manage scope/budget/schedule and make sure the project adheres to whatever the hell their Enterprise PMO dictates. I possess intimate knowledge of claims adjudication, rebates processing, and client guarantees with drug mfgrs.

We all know being a PM is being a little beeyotch punching bag with no authority. Thankfully I have a very good working relationship with my dev & QA team. Their Sr Mgr of App engineering team actually vouched for me to stay with his team during Agile transformation.

I was in the process of converting (made a thread about this), but it looks like my firm doesn't want to let me go, which I completely understand.

May I ask how much is your wife making? What band is she? Position? Just curious because my cousin is doing a pharmacy degree.

engineer for medical device company. 82k. if i were a better negotiator, i could be making more (FoMoCo offered me 92k 2 years ago). that being said, my quality of life/lifestyle is still quite good. hoping that getting my PE license will help me get a good bump this year along with everything i've been trying to push in terms of new capabilities (whether local or through vendors), execution of capex, etc.
