How much do you pay for the internet?

Out in the sticks I have exactly three options. I need to have cable/sat for my wife that's a must.
1) Frontier offers DSL / satellite and it adds up to more than craptastic.
2) craptastic Infinity bladder Stones
3) a local Cable telephone company.

We had the little local company for many years, then they had some long drawn out equipment problems that were crippling for uptime and reliability. In a moment of weakness, i took a deal from comcast.
I neglected to re-negotiate prior to the epic rate hike, so we drop back to the local company.
Good news is I can pre-register for FiOS from that company at $80 a month for Gig symmetrical service. They rolled it out in a few neighborhoods and they lack a few pre-registrations to rolling out here.

$80 for Gigabit Symmetrical service is worth it, IMHO. Assuming that the ISP has decent peering, of course. VZ had issues with that, for a while, a few years back, YouTube would buffer horribly, even with a 1Gbit/sec pipe. Now, it's pretty usable.

I'm sure I'll have time to figure that out while I'm on their cable service. Could be months even years before they do the installation.

Honestly I would only have a use for that much speed if ISPs offered static IP pools and got rid of the stupid rules about not being allowed to run web servers. That said, at that price I would probably still get it, that's cheaper than my 50/30 service. To get around their rules I could setup a VPN tunnel to a cheap VPS and still host my web server stuff at home.

WOW (Detroit Metro area), 100/10, no cap, $30/month plus $1.99 due to some sort of BS like not autopay or the like. Own our SB6183.

The technician just left and my first speed test was 171/23 for a 150 /20 , live streaming a movie through their app with no buffering. Looks good so far.

We got in on a good deal that is sadly coming to an end in a few months. Cable internet 1Gb down/20MB up, unlimited data. $39 a month for the past 2 years :O

It was the last century, I used a push-button TV. Today, the TV I’ve delivered from deleted can’t set up Wi-Fi. What access and what degree of security should be set.

For the USA, that would be a decently cheap internet plan. Overseas, though, I hear internet costs a lot less than in the USA, so perhaps he doesn't see that as a "good price" for internet. They get like Gigabit for $20/mo overseas in places.

Using Hulu for Live TV with DVR. Also have Netflix, Disney +, ESPN + and Amazon (comes with my Prime). I don't miss Comcast, at all!

After AT&T failed to acquire T-Mobile they decided they no longer wanted to be a 'dumb pipe' telecommunications company anymore. So, they built ATT Integrated Cloud and touted it as the competitor to AWS and M$ solutions but failed miserably. So, they gave up on their Cloud[ed] dreams and bought DirecTV, because now they wanted to be a TV company and not a telephone company. That didn't work out, either. Then they bough Time-Warner Media content because they want to get into the streaming business and guess where that has gotten them? Out of the only profitable business they had, which was cellular as they are ranked rd, behind everyone else. And yet AT&T will fight tooth and nail to prevent broadband competitors from coming into their region and steeling their lowest-profit service from them. Hahaha and I work for them.

Well my 100Mbps unlimited bandwidth cable internet is going up $10 so that would put me at $98 a month. My electric bill is only $75 a month so I need to downgrade my internet to 50 or 75Mbps. That means I'll be stuck with a 250GB cap

The fastest alternative is 18Mbps dsl at $55 a month.

Damn I wish my hydro bill was under $100/mo. Even if I produceded my own electricity and used 0kwh my bill would still be around $100/mo as that is the minimum with all the fixed fees. It leaves little to no incentive to conserve as the usage is just a small fraction of the bill.

thats the one advantage to living in a big city, they have lots of fiber running. here its 100/20- unlimited for 100 freaking $$ a month for 50 you can get 500gb cap and pay 1$ a gb after (i need unlimited too) wonder what a hydro bill is? local tax for electricity generation? that sux ;( hope its nice to live there.

Nicer than a big city... and my internet is not capped, so guess I got that going for me. My yard is too small though, I eventually want to buy a bigger property so I can enjoy nature more and also have room to generate my own power and do hobby stuff etc.
