Wait, wait, you have a double-play, with Internet and TV?

Or just straight-up Internet ONLY?

And they raised their rates on internet only, $5/mo, because of negotiations with TV providers?

What a load of Shenanigans.
Spectrum is probably just as bad as Comcast, but they get much less press coverage. I'm a little surprised some people have posted decent rates from Spectrum in this thread (albeit service offerings are regional). They are inflexible and outside of first year promos, I believe their minimum offering is at last $60 per month.

Having said that, if you are grandfathered into ELP (Everyday Low Price) from Time Warner Cable, it's not that bad. Although they recently bumped the price up to $20 per month (higher in some areas), downstream is now 20 Mbps, which is much better than it used to be (3 Mbps).

Why can't you replace the land line with VoIP? Even without a paid-for land line the act physical line can still process 911 calls.
My wife still wants a land line. Dont know why; thats what she is comfortable with I guess.

It’s funny this thread got bumped. My wife was just bitching Sunday they raised it $10. I told her if she just held back buying one useless thing a month from amazon that would cover the $10.

Comcast is raising their internet rates by ~$3/month. I recently dropped the Blast! internet (I think it was 300/10) for $95/month in favor of the Performance (100/5) for $75/month.

1Gb internet for $70 intro 1 yr and $85 after. Best real download I've seen tho has been 650Mb but still a big improvement from the old 100Mb for $60/mo I was using. Guess I was new customer for 1Gb internet on my street cause they had to send a crew out and dug up the lawn across 4 houses to bury the big cable to a new junction box. My neighbor was p1$$ed but hey, bandwidth >> nice lawn.

My Xfinity bill just went up 38 bucks. I called them up and they gave me about 11 of it back. There's another local provider so I'm bailing on those assholes.

As for the Wifi, just buy a router and connect it to your modem, or as an AP to your gateway. Spectrum can't keep you from using your wifi-connected devices.

As for "spectrum control everything", I guess you're talking about regional cable franchise agreements?

100/25 fiber for $100/mo. from local telephone/cable company.

Other option for us is Xfinity....choice of speeds from them are 9/2 or 18/5 via copper. Neither are acceptable for speed and the price is over $45 for the 9/2, $60 for the 18/5.

One of the main problems with small towns.

Of course, our 5PM traffic jam lasts a whole 10 minutes or so, so there's that. And I'm 2 min. from a boat launch ramp.

How long ago did you look at rate card? Those are old speed tiers. They should be 15/2 and 25/3, and 60/5.

I'm planning to go this route, but man that upload speed sucks. I guess I'll have to get adjusted to it, at least until at&t brings fiber to my hood.

I can't bring myself to go above my FIOS 75/75 triple play for $150 because while the gigabit monthly rates are low, they are only promo rates. I'm well into a decade of service so no more deals for us. Once the 2-yr promo ends on any new plan, the package will easily go above $200/mo. so I'm sticking with this.

You're lucky you had it this long. I WFH everyday and they stopped paying for us well over a decade ago because having high speed internet at home beyond DSL was the norm already so we should already be paying for it ourselves. They used to reimburse up to $50/mo. - that was pretty sweet.

My bill just went up $25/mo. Comcast boosted my Internet speed to 200mbps. While that’s nice, it negotiation time. I hate that I have to do this every 2 years. They have no competition in my city because we have a call/service center here.

This makes no sense to me. If one ISP has a call/service center in your area that negates any requirement for the local franchise authority to instill competition?

In my area, cable internet is split between Spectrum and Comcast. I had Charter (Spectrum), but cancelled because they bumped their pricing to $65/month.

I'm really waiting on more competition to show up through WISP technologies in the next few years to make things more interesting....I'm still limping by on 50GB/month using a Sprint hotspot (basically included in the cell plan I already have).
