Probably shortened my life by some percentage by working my ass off and sleeping 5 -6 a night at best.

But did retire at 55, and the absolute thing about retiring is I can sleep till I wake up, which is usually 7 - 8 hours. Waking up on your own without a flapping alarmclock is the best.

Of the most irritating and life shortening inventions, it belongs to the damn alarm clock. On the rare occasion I still use one for an appointment or something, I just f'ing hate waking up to those damn things.

You don't actually have to use it. It's pretty easy to train your brain to wake up at a certain time.

9 Hours. Any less I feel tired and any more I feel out of tune with reality. I dream a lot, usually 4-5 a night and remember them all when I wake up.

I'm a long sleeper by most standards. I require 8-10 hrs on a workout day, or 7-8 hrs minimum if I don't. I also sleep very heavily, although I wake up semi-often due to dehydration.

Unlike the rest of my family, I have absolutely no problems sleeping.

Not enough. About 6-7 hours on weekdays, then 8-10 hours on the weekend. Effing neighbour has been doing hardcore renovations (read: gut) 6 days a week, so they are really f*cking my sleep up. On weekdays, they have started between 6:30 to 7:00.

Planned sleep schedule: on shift 6-8 hours; off shift varies.

I have hypersomnia, so without good ol' class 2 amphetamines I sleep as long as anyone (or an outside source) lets me. My brain never knows that I've had enough sleep. Obviously this results in falling asleep at inappropriate times and the general inability to stay awake despite how much sleep I've had.

I think my record is something like 20-21 hours before I was woken up to eat. It wasn't too bad when I was living with others or in an apartment as those generally noisy places would wake me up if I slept through an alarm -- usually. But when I moved into my current house and its relative dead silence, I would sleep away entire weekends.

Ironically, since being put on Adderall, I now wake up after 4 hours of sleep (+/- 5 minutes; it's that precise) and it's a crapshoot if I can fall back asleep. This then results in genuine sleepiness from lack of sleep. *sigh* Boggles my sleep doctor's mind.

4 hours.
Because I got anxiety like a bitch. I spend 8 hours in bed each night.

If the first 4 hours are the ones where your awake but just can't fall asleep, and finally you fall asleep and then you sleep well until the evil alarm clock tolls ... Maybe look into trying some Melatonin? Might not help, but, it might make a big difference for you. (I don't usually anxiety too much, but, I have a fvcked up internal clock ... always tired in the morning and never at night, but, I have to be awake by 8am...)

I have such whack sleeping schedules since I do rotating shifts every 2 weeks, so 2 weeks night, 2 weeks evening 2 weeks day. When I'm evening or nightshift I can usually get around 7 hours, dayshift it's between 4 and 6

could sleep 9+ regularly, but happy with 8. usually get around 7.5. < 7.5 catches up to me after a few days. can barely function <6.

i have extreme difficulty napping, usually takes a long time to sleep and its not restful.

have only been able to pull all-nighters while intoxicated, never sober, even in college to study.
