I haven't maxed out for ages. Currently I like to do 5 sets of 10 pulls. Each set if immediately followed by 20 explosive pushups. Then I take a min break in between each set. Somedays the pullups are harder and other days, the pushups

I think I remember seeing a pic of you and you don't look anywhere near 195lbs...unless your 6'1-6'3 tall.

6'3" 190lbs

:awe:

I used to be able to knock out 25, but I slacked for awhile and I am down to 20.

163, roughly 10-14 underhand last I tried while not doing them during a regular workout. Much better than the 0 I could do until I was 30.

185lb, 3 sets of 8 with sideways grip (palms facing each other)
not sure if those are the right type of chins/pullups to do but they seem to have a nice balance between working my back and my arms. Chinups go straight to the biceps and pullups seem to be more back/shoulders, I combine the two.

6'0, 169lbs. Just did 3 in a row, followed by 2 more a minute later, then 2 more a few more minutes later. Overhand grip, using these handles:

This is pretty good progress for me because when I got this thing on 8/25/10 I couldn't even pull myself up the slightest with an overhand grip.
I could do a few chin ups (underhand) right away so I'm guessing I could do even more now, but I'm trying to focus on pull ups instead of chin ups for the time being.

The most I've done is 10 pull-ups, double from what I could do a month ago. I do them at the end of my workout, so I don't know how many more I could do if fresh.

165lbs 3 pullups on a good day, 1 pullup on average. : ( I got to 3 during the summer because I was working out every day.

In my defence, I simply have no time for working out between work and school. I come home at 10pm and collapse jut to wake up at 7 the next morning and be at work by nine... I only have 1 and a half days off per week which I use to do my homework which is piling up like crazy.

Right now I'm 198 lbs and palms facing can do ~9 quality reps. A few years ago was closer to 170 and could do about 17. I'm both fatter and weaker at this time, correction coming forthwith.

17 wide grip yesterday, booyah!
18 middle wide grip today, booyah!

I'm going to do one max set 6x a week.

Bit of a break through for me. Been doing it on off with varying degrees of consistency over the past 5months. Did 12 quick, then took ages to get to 13reps. Then only last week I did 14reps then yesterday I did 17reps. Did not expect that at all!

I've been doing some more lat specific stuff
-strict lat pulls down, focusing on pulling with my lats
-reverse grip grows
-pendley rows

But I think one of the biggest things is not pulling so high over the faaaarrrking bar. Just enough to be over it with my chin and lowering myself down a bit faster so I am not under tension so much. Just felt really easy to bash out 13reps. Then 13 to 17 was a bit of a grinder as can be seen from the 15, 16 and 17th rep.

I would expect to be able to hit 20 by the end of the year.

Yes if you want to maximize the reps you should go just high enough in order for your chin to be over the bar.
Myself i am going in the opposite direction, i am doing them with bar nearly to the chest. 13 reps with 2 additional reps with only chin above bar is what i have done yesterday.
weight ~70kg

i also do one max set every workout and additional lat pulldowns/rows 2 times a week.

I've done 14 going as high as possible. Just that not going as high makes a huge difference!

Try this. Try and get the middle of your sternum to touch the bar...I don't think I've seen anyone do this. No kipping. Only using yoru arms

I'm also throwing in a set pulling to my left wrist as I'm pulling weirdly on the later reps due to my 12yrs of Tennis. The right side of my back is thicker then my left.

200lbs and I can do only 6.
When I do them with my palms facing away I experience pain in my forearm on my last few reps.

I don't know the proper terminology... but will stick w\ some others.

Weight : 195-200
Overhand : 5-6
Underhand : 10-12

About the same number I could do a couple years ago when I dropped all the way to 165lbs.

I weigh 300 lbs (a good bit of fat, but also strong) and 6 ft tall. Currently, I can do 3 sets of 5 reps each. This is standard pullup, but If I switch to chin-ups I can usually do 1 or 2 more reps.

My goal is to do 10 reps at a lower body weight of around 250.

I can provide video proof. I surprise the hell out of people when I hop up to grab the bar, let my arms hang, and then knock out reps.

Other metrics:
-Bench press 315 for 5 reps (weakish on bench due old injury).
-Deadlift 375 without straps, using pronated grip
Probably around 450 with straps.
-can run 2 miles in 24 min or 5 miles in forever.

Well, this thread is old and brought back from the dead, but still valid.

Currently around 180-185, can do around 13 strict pull ups with a double overhand grip and around 25 kipping pull ups. I've never tested a max set of underhand (chin up) or mixed grip.
Bench ~245lb
DL ~405lb
Back Squat ~365lb
Front squat ~305lb

2 miles in 24 mins is not very good. Which further proves my point that I have argued here a few times.

On topic, doing proper pullups or chin-ups is something most people do not do. Not doing them right makes them easier. Doing them properly I can do roughly 32 chin-ups and 25 pullups. 6', 220lbs.

I did mention I am pretty fat. Just glad I can run at all. Used to do 2 miles in under 16 min, and fastest was 2 miles in 14 min.
