Sounds like you're suggesting that if you took God out of the equation there would be no more killing. No matter what peoples believes are there will always be killing in the name of something.

it would be hard to fathom something along the lines of the crusades, justified by something other than god...like "cookies"

How about money, power or resources?

Heck, I'm sure if you completely took God out of the equation, we'd be fighting over scientific theories instead.

We fight over those anyway. At least those battles make sense.

So World War's I and II made sense?

Yes?

Oh, btw, I forgot to mention politics and nationalism as a possible cause for retarded wars.

So what point are you trying to make exactly? WWI and II weren't based on religion, ethnicity was the major cause, next in line is greed. but wait, "forgot to mention politics and nationalism as the possible cause"....covering all the bases?

That God is not the reason for all wars, as human beings we cause our own wars. No matter what we'll always find a reason to kill each other.

Also, I never said politics and nationalism were the causes of these wars, I was just adding to my list of other reasons besides God that people kill each other over.

But you can't say that god isn't a motivator for SOME wars.

No. Bad example in hindsight. The other poster hit the nail on the head, however.

LOL....wait....LOLOLOLOL. Man, where did you get that quote from? That was hilarious!

If something good happens to you, "thanks be to God." If something bad happens to you (you get paralyzed from the neck down, get terminal cancer at age 18), "God works in mysterious ways." Very convenient. Amazing, God can't lose. Well, I guess that's why he's God.

LOL, man, that cracks me up...every time.

Let me get this straight.

God is all powerful and omnipresent. According to the Bible he has intervened numerous times in human history for various reasons. Yet, he does not intervene when man starts wars in his name. He does not intervene when man uses his name to torture, burn and kill so called "heretics". He does not intervene when the local level leaders of his "flock" commit horrible crimes against children. He does not intervene when the Church tries to prevent the enlightenment of man which the Church has done consistently throughout history. He doesn't intervene when the Church cherry picks paragraphs in the Bible to take literally while ignoring passages that are sometimes on the same page.

The Church will explain that away by saying that man has free will. My question is, why would anyone have blind faith in a Church that has such a horrendous history and track record? Why would anyone support the suppression of science and knowledge?

?The church says the earth is flat, but I know that it is round, for I have seen the shadow on the moon, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the church?

I have faith that the bible can't tell me how the world is going to end when it failed so miserably to describe how it began. I have faith that at this very moment a priest is molesting yet another kid. I have faith that his superiors will attempt to cover it up. I have faith that your impotent little god will do nothing to help that kid. I have faith that the church will hide behind bankruptcy laws when that kid comes back to collect damages.

Watched the whole thing. Have to say it's very well done, even if I don't believe in any of it myself. The point is pretty obvious.

Much of what you say is true. If you read the new testament you will know that the group Christ rebuked more than any other were the leaders of the church, the Pharisees. The philosopher will tell you that the bible is just another series of mind controls to dominate the masses. The truth is that Christ appealed to the low in spirit because they are humbled and teachable. If one is puffed(leavened) up they are not teachable.
Much of the church is Evil. The new testament speaks often of the apostate church. The disciples asked Christ when the end would come and his response was as follows;

4And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

6And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

10And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

Mat 7:15
15"Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

So you see...your view that the church is corrupt was nothing new to Christ either.

Where's your tolerance for criticism? No idea is so sacred that it's above criticism.

There is some criticism but mostly insults. There is a distinct difference.
