Interesting. So you buy parts from newegg, assemble and sell the PC?
How can you be competitive against Dell etc and actually make money?

Because most of the customers are really paying for the support: removing viruses, copying all your stuff from the old PC to the new, setting up their email, etc. They could care less or even know that what you're selling them may be more expensive than Dell, especially if they've had to contact Dell to try and do any of the above.

About $2,500 as I tend to sell my old hardware to recoup costs, otherwise I would had invest over $7,000 and that's not counting when I used to buy on the now defunct MonarchComputer! and Tiger Direct which no longer ships to where I live. :-(

I dont even want to hazard a guess. It'd probably make me cry wishing I had that money right now. Of course I'd probably run out and spend it if I did. Another PC would be on that list too. LOL

You've spent $200K in computer parts in the past 6 years and you're only 21? I wish my dad would have let me use his credit card back then.

The fact that I can build a computer for $420 (I'm thinking without Windows, by the way) with an AMD Phenom II X4 and 5770, and sell it for $550 to customer who wants a gaming computer on a budget who dosen't have the know how to build one himself allows me to make money. For $550, the best GPU you can get from Dell is like an NV 520. Also, I didn't start doing the computer business until I was 17.

My NewEgg's expenses are in the decline steadily due to stiff competition from my local MC who's been very aggressive on its pricing competitiveness.
NewEgg's customer service has been way off for me as my last two purchases did not even email me the tracking number.

I thought this might be a fun thing to post in, and that it would be fun to tally up my newegg purchases, but I was wrong:
$11,500, give or take, I mean just take and take and take

I know there is so much I could have done with that money, other than feed my obsession with computer parts (which I'm sure many people here share).

$4422.53 since 3/5/2004. My first 3 years of purchases?
AMD Mobile Athlon XP-M 25600+ Barton 2.0Ghz
Hyundai L90D+ Silver 19" 8ms LCD Monitor
Transcend 1GB 200-pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533
Open box OCZ Premier Series 512MB DDR PC3200
Rosewill esata harddrive enclosure + seagate barracuda 320GB perpendicular recording harddrive
Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 router DD-wrt support

All pretty worthwhile purchases imo, but damn how much I've spent since then, on a variety of things far less useful. To be fair, I used to do most of my purchasing through pricewatch.com (other companies used to beat newegg pretty soundly in pricing!). Now pricewatch isn't even worth checking, but sometimes amazon is, and I often check slickdeals of techbargains for better deals.

50 - 75k since Newegg launched. Combination of personal, business, and my current job. My biggest single orders have been around 25k, that was when the school first launched and we needed all the school computers and network infrastructure. Turned out they were more competitive than even Dell. Got some critisism for not getting Dells with a service contract. But after 5 years those mid $300ish Acers held up great. All of the original 60 PCs are still in operation and I doubt we have spent $100 in parts to handle any issues with those PCs.

About $2000 at newegg.

I've spent about $15000 at ncix and $10000 at Dell ...and roughly another 8000 at future shop... All computers and parts.

Crazy when you think about it. My days of top end computers are done... More bang for buck oriented now.

$8,250 since Jan. '02 but only about half of that was just for me.

In the past I used Newegg as my sole PC source, now a days I use whoever now that I have a Frys and Micro Center within an hour or so from me.
