I have two savings accounts: One is my emergency fund, and the other is a temporary holding money market attached to my checking that I use to hold income before I push it to my investment accounts. I have about $34k in there now, but that'll be down to ~$10k by the end of the day.

I try not to let my money just sit in a savings account (the exception being the emergency fund).

savings account? why so inflation can further erode the little money I make after taxes and then whatever interest is gained is beheaded by yet more income tax? great idea

How did you get his worth at $230k? I think he meant that he had ~$200 in savings not $200k.

not to funny if what you say is true, they can if they want close out your account and make your money go bye bye after so many months of non-active usage which they consider to be deposits of some amount.

its right there in their terms of service (yes some people actually read those, specially when its dealing with $)

so you might want to check into getting that reset or something...

For the record I don't see any reason why I SHOULDN'T share this so:

I'm 30
Income = 68k
Savings = $200 (oh believe me, I know...)
401k = 35,000
I own a $235k house have 3 kids under 1, 4, 8 the older two go to private school, hence no savings..
about $4500 left on the CC :|

My wife is transitioning to work, she'll hopefully pull in 40k or so when she starts in 1-2 years.... till then we're esentially sitting on a razor... I drink cheap beer to deal with it.

The "what-if-I-lose-my-job-and-the-stock-market-crashes-and-I-should-have-6-months-
orth-of-cash" savings account ~ $6000 @ ingdirect

The "Open-a-new-Savings-Account-with-$500-minimum-and-get-$50-free" savings account ~ $550 @ my B&M bank - I'll close this one after the 6-month waiting period is over because the interest rate is pathetic.

The "Super-emergency" savings account at a completely different bank ~ $500

Thinking about my finances really makes me realize how much organizing I have to do, and soon.

Biggest savings account has a little under 44k in it... then I have money spread out all over the place = another savings account, two checking accounts, mutual fund, 401k, Paypal, etc.

What's really helped is being debt free for the past 3+ years.

If the market crashes, you're not going to have any money left in that ING account because THATS HOW YOU GET YOUR INTEREST...

You do realize that there's this thing called FDIC insurance.... You *WILL* get your money back out of the bank, no matter what.
