$800 for a one bedroom apartment (about 600 sqft). Its kinda old and has a few problems, but I love the location. Its as far from campus as you can get while still being 1 block away from the campus bus. Also, its only 1 story high, so I have nobody above me and nobody below me (I value this very very much).

I could get a nicer place for $600 if I moved a few miles out, but my daily commute would increase.

I remember my rent - $650 for a three level townhouse.

I lived there for a long time, and sometimes I really wish I could go back to absolute responsiblity free living.

Something breaks - call the landlord. And he mows the lawn and shovels the snow too.

Property taxes and homeowners insurance? What's that?

When all is said and done - I am happy to own. But it's so much more expensive.

$3025 for a 1 bedroom with a roommate. Pressurized wall to convert the living room, into an extra bedroom. I pay $1425 + half of utilities and electricity. At least gas, and water is free lol

fck I need to move, and save me some $$$$

The place I rented after college varied from $900 to $975. It was an 1100sq.ft. townhome with in-unit washer and dryer hookups, and a private garage underneath.

The last place I rented was in NYC in late 90's right after B-School.

Two cops told me that my building was owned by the Mafia. LOL.

Rent was $1750 (top of tall building)--brand new building/apt. GREAT fucking place with a HUGE WINDOW view of the river and city. A 10-15 minute walk to work and access to everyyyything within a stone's throw. Everyone who visited wanted to move in.

Man, do I miss that place!

$1150 rent for 3br/2ba with a 3car garage and a tiny back yard. Good location, though.

Utilities run about $300-$400 depending on the month.

$3049 -- ~1700 sq ft 2 bed, 2 bath -- includes DirecTV, water, parking and slow internet. Nice place right near the GW Bridge with a doorman, movie theater, gym, security, etc. but the rent is too high IMO even with the one free month they threw in last year.

After 3 years here, we are looking to rent a house in the area for some more space..

Where do you live? That is really high. You're spending $36,000 a year on rent!

unless you're really into the bar/club thing and want a place in walking distance to bring different chicks back to every night, I'll never understand the appeal in getting assraped in Hoboken rent. Grove Street/JSQ in JC are both decent neighborhoods (Grove Street especially is on the verge of becoming a gay ghetto), only a few minutes longer to get into NYC, and at like 1/3 the price.

but at least your ass will be nice and loose for property taxes what my parents pay in property tax alone on their 3BR house is comparable to the rent on a 2BR in the same area, and that's not even touching mortgage/misc upkeep expenses.

Loki you are referring to the out-of-towners Hoboken scene whom mainly congregate at the bars by the path. I live with my wife and we are into the good restaurant scene with a smattering of pub scene. With two incomes it's "easy" to swing the rent and misc. expenses that pile up from eating out while saving for a house on a 3-5 year time frame, that includes us having paid what I consider a ludicrous amount for our own wedding.

@BarkingGhostar
Regarding Atlanta, I did my masters at Georgia Tech and I enjoyed my time down there but I wouldn't move from NJ.

Different regions in the country are just different. We could live someone else and probably have more in the bank even with lower salaries. However, we just don't see the appeal of that because we can comfortably reach all our life goals here in the area we grew up in with all our family & friends here.

Darn OP, sub 200 sq ft? Your whole studio almost 1/4 of my small 1 br apt.

My rent with all utilities/fees/etc. included is less than $800/month, and everything (maint./lawn care/etc.) are taken care of by the apt management.

I don't know how some of you guys were able to save money after you paid for you housing cost and utilities. Yike.
